Chasing a buyout? Not a bad retirement package if you can get it.

quote:

Texas A&M and Mike Elko have agreed on a 6-year contract at $7 million per year, according to terms released Monday.

quote:

If fired without cause with more than three years remaining on his contract, Texas A&M would owe 75 percent of the remaining contract, and 80 percent of the remainder if less than three years remain.

So $42 million total, and he gets $21 million for 3 years plus a buyout of 15.75 million after 3 years.

Unless he is absolutely terrible to not keep the job for 3 years, or does something stupid, he will get at least $36.75 million for 3 years.

He is getting paid.

Now it is time for those 8-5 seasons.

His hire was the one I dreaded most. He is a well known Defensive coach with a record at A&M and Duke.
My concern is that LSU is not going to get some of those D players that we so badly need. Jacoby Mathews is a beast and a LA beast that we lost....I was hoping he might come home. Doubt A&M loses much in the portal with this hire.

So, buyouts are just a fact of life now...like the sunrise?

Yeah. Buyout or extension if you win and use the leverage of leaving to negotiate a new contract.

Once you get one of those contracts, you make a killing either way.

I guess going 7-5 in the SEC is better than 7-5 in the ACC
