There is something wrong with three D1 teams finishing undefeated and not having any chance for a NC. I love how this year the BSC decided to just eliminate Boise and TCU by having them play each other. No way they want another Utah/Alabama result. I say on a good day Boise State can beat anyone, TCU too.

Exactly. Thats exactly what the BCS supporters say. But they couldn't do it for an entire season...its better for these teams to get one game one shot instead of a playoff....if you think boise or TCU could run through florida/bama/texas in three consecutive weeks... this way at least they get their chance at one big game.

Id like to see if Texas could get through Cinn. Boise, and TCU on three consecutive weeks.

Wasn't it the Fiesta Bowl that decided this pairing based off of which schools would bring the most money.

To be honest I don't know how this selection is made. I do know that both teams have the same rep. (playing weak opponents etc) the same as Utah last year. By playing each other no "Big" conferences have the risk and Boise and TCU have no chance to improve the image dispite undefeated seasons.

Besides conference tie ins, the BCS teams have a picking order. I don't really think picking TCU and Boise has anything to do with making the big conferences look good. The Fiesta Bowl thought those were the 2 teams that could bring in the most money at their particular pick.

Then you need STFU, cause its the Fiesta Bowl that picked and they felt TCU and Boise would be better for their bowl than Iowa/Boise or TCU/Cincy

and let's face the fact that -- outside of the NC game -- they just had a lot of crap to choose from ... if someone told you iowa, TCU, and boise state would be the best available options in the at-large pool for the BCS, you would say .. geez, what a horrible year for college football ...

What a horrible year for college football. Oh, wait.

Anyway, since it got ignored in the other thread on the same topic, I'll quote my post there here on why I support going back to the old system:

quote:

the BCS doesn’t work unless there are two teams everyone agrees upon. All of the “BCS works” arguments are founded upon the assumption everyone left out didn’t deserve the title, which is sort of a self-fulfilling analysis.

So, if we’re not gonna have system that crowns a legit champ, let’s just have a blast and have an orgy of football on January 1. Under the old system, the WAC (pre-MWC) champ played the Big 10 in the Holiday Bowl. It’s hard to guess what bowl tie-ins would look like absent the BCS, but let’s just go with the current tie-ins, though they would likely be different.

We lose the title game, so the BCS games would likely be, in the old system:

ROSE: Ohio St (Big 10) v. Oregon (Pac 10)
SUGAR: Bama (SEC) v. at large
ORANGE: Georgia Tech (ACC) v. at large
FIESTA: Texas (Big 12) v. at large

*with the accepted understanding, someone takes the Big East champ (Cincy). In the old days, then it came down to maneuvering as each bowl independently tried to get the best matchup. The Fiesta likely would have snapped up TCU for the Texas-TCU matchup while the Sugar would have offered Cincinnati to get the battle of the unbeatens. While Cincy could be sissies and take the Orange Bowl matchup, they would have likely taken the Sugar Bowl bid. Leaving the Orange Bowl free to snap up Florida. Boise gets hosed and goes to the Humanitarian Bowl to smack around BGSU or they find one of those out clauses bowls use to have and sneak into something like the Holiday Bowl to play Arizona.

In the end, we get more chaos, better bowl matchups, and still get a questionable champ because teams were frozen out. But at least the old system was honest in that all it was trying to do was give us good matchups. Now, we get lousy matchups and a lousy way to get a champ. Either have a playoff or go back to the old system. I truly despise this compromise solution which does neither thing (create compelling matchups and crown an undisputed champ) well.

You realize, for those of who believe that Texas does not deserve to be in the title game, this is a point in favor of the old system.

well said, baloo ... after the NC match up, the way the system is designed, we just get crap match ups .. the two-school limit per conference hurts for starters ... the big east getting an automatic bid has almost every season turned into a stinker too ...

Crap matchups? How about you show us the better matchups under the old system?

And Baloo

You are out of your mind if you think very many people think TCU, Cincy or Boise deserve to be in the title game over Texas.

The only people whining and rending their clothes are people that hate the BCS and want a playoff.

I did show you what the matchups would've been. My best guess:

Ohio St-Oregon
GT-Florida
Bama-Cincy
Texas-TCU

TCU is better than Texas. I've been saying that since the first month of the season and see no reason to change my opinion. It has nothing to do with the BCS. And it's actually not that uncommon of an opninion. Maybe not a majority, but certainly a sizeable number. It's pretty easy to do a search for articles advocating TCU over Texas.

There is only one crap matchup and that was pretty much forced by congress taking a peak into the BCS and pretty much forcing them to take non BCS teams.

I like all the bowls and will be interested to watch all the bcs bowls except for the TCU Boise matchup.

It is a shame that they were lumped together as neither will earn any respect by beating the other.

Utah proved they belonged last year thumping Bama.

The problem with the average fan today is you guys have become so focused on the MNC being the only aspiration for the season.

These are all good teams and they will be fun to watch although I imagine TCU Boise will have hands down the lowest tv ratings.
