Do you think that teams should be able to contact players in an attempt to recruit those players while they're under contract with another team?
Sure. Why not

Could they trade for him?
Yes theoretically, but there’s several steps that need to happen before a trade becomes a possibility.
The Mavericks have signaled they have zero interest in anything the Knicks could offer.
Even if there was a ridiculous haul of players and picks that could get the Mavs to change their mind, the Knicks aren’t going to pay that price for a coach they can’t interview.

I'll ask the obvious question;
Can they in any way know they have permission before they fire their coach? Like can they call the Mavs up a month ago, do an NDA and say "we think we may fire our coach can we interview yours if we do"?
Why would any NBA team say "sure interview our current HC" unless they want to get rid of said coach then the team interviewing may not want the interview

I would love to hear what "firmly denied" sounds like in these situations

There’s absolutely zero reason why requesting permission should be a thing lol

Jokic isn't coming with him so he isn't an upgrade.

They should still be able to talk to other teams without that team needing permission
Like players do

Love QS. Guy can coach!
When Carlisle was available I wish we had offered. We going to be stuck with Willie . Nobody allowing you to even talk to coaches. Money talks bs walks.

The NY Knicks owners are retards. You don't fire a HC that brought you to a conference finals (first appearance in 20+ years) and not have a plan in place.
Now every coach is rejecting it because who wants to work for an organization like that.

It's not the coaches who are rejecting the interview.

Ok. They should still be able to talk to other teams without that team needing permission.
Coach: “Deal”
Coach: “Hey guys I’m not showing up to work anymore”
Current Team: [Nothing to be said, they have to fire him]
Coach: “We’re good now, send bonus wire.”
Suitor Team: “Welcome to the family!”
Teams don’t want to deal with that nonsense in the same way that colleges don’t want to deal with NIL mercenaries constantly threatening the stability of their program. Coaches can’t strongarm their way out of a contract or force raises if they aren’t even allowed to speak to other teams

Illustrating what happens with frequency if teams don’t have the right to restrict access to coaches under contract

You don’t think that doesn’t happen already? lol
They are under a contract with their current. They can’t just leave lol
I mean, I guess they can under your extreme hypothetical. But that’s career suicide for that coach and that team that got him likely ruins their franchises future. In a realistic world, none of that happens.
