they are an aging team
not really.
Dirk is showing no signs of slowing down.
Terry/Kidd can be replaced by Beaubois/Barea
Marion can be replaced by Butler

Dirk has a few more years at a high level. He may not show signs of slowing down now, but when he hits 35 in a few it will start to show.
Beaubois could be the guy, but can he be healthy?
Barea is legit, but he is in no going to be able to fully replace Kidd.
And we will see about Butler and his knee.

Ric Bucher
Not on topic here, but you should check out Dan LeBatard's podcast from Friday.
He absolutely owned Bucher and Bucher got all mad and shite.
It was awesome. Bucher was still ranting about how Drose is the best player in the game.

Did you see Bucher's chat log on ESPN.com friday? Seems like he's starting to get legitimately pissed that people are bashing him for the Rose thing. I've never paid much attention to him before, but his reasoning behind the Rose stuff is just painfully stupid.

Oh, he was no doubt legitimately pissed at LeBatard.
Lebatard was joking about how Drose had urine running down his leg(obviously joking which is the format of his show), Bucher started ranting about why'd they ask him on the show if they were gonna be like that.
They interviewed him twice this week. 1st time was After Rose went 8 of 19 in game 4 with more turnovers than assists. It was after his interview with Cowherd.
It's funny hearing Lebatard go at him.

Dallas has a ton of money coming off the cap in 2011/2012 and even more coming off in 2012/2013
They could make a move with expirings next yr or they could sign Howard outright ad a FA
they could conceivably take Hedo or Arenas too in a Howard trade next year as Orlando would no doubt require
Dirk still has his "sam perkins" era ahead of him that would be great with Howard at center.

He's never really garnered much respect from the NBA beat writers.
I have wondered forever why people seem to take him very seriously.
ESPN has a real writer who is more in the know about the Western Conference teams on the same staff ands hardly utilized him-Mark Stein.
Stein has better connections that don't worry about him burning them than Bucher at least in the Western Conference.

Dallas only has 41mm on the books next yr
They are absolutely a player in the Howard scenario
Like I said dirk could be a 7 ft floor spacer into his 40s
Which fits well with Howard

Yeah they have money coming off, but you're assuming two fatal things:
1) The CBA won't change the cap situation and
2) Dallas won't sign, resign, or trade for anyone until then. They have 41 in committed salary for 2012. That number will rise, no doubt.
They aren't getting Dwight or CP. Keep dreaming.

I know you were posting to Rammerjammer but he wasn't the one talking Mavs signing free agents.
I am fully aware of the CBA posibly changing & even mentioned it in my second post on the subject:
It seems like you guys are all thinking a new CBA will favor small market teams.
This might be the case but the final results of these negotiations will not favor one party whether it is big market owners, small market owners or players.
Each group will get a little of what they want, and being completely honest the small market owners will have the smallest say in the whole deal.

Unless the new CBA changes the way business is done, Orlando & New Orleans will have to get creative by coming up with some real deals or settle for a post "decision" move like Cleveland did.

New CBA will be phased in
Howard will be a prize catch

Dallas has pulled off plenty of big trades and acquisitions during the Cuban era, to count them out would be pretty damn foolish.
We have no way of knowing what the cap will be in 2012, what we do know is Dallas is in good shape to make moves based on their current salary situation.
