Not past line of scrimmage. Nowhere near a receiver. Just drop the ball as you move your arm forward and you never get a grounding call.

there is leeway in grounding

like when the QBs arm is hit while throwing

quote:

The passer to conserve yardage throws the ball forward into an area where there is no eligible Team A receiver..

to conserve yardage is why

i edited from an example to the actual wording

I think this is the only rule in football that has the refs measure the intent of the player.

I think it's actually the "intentionally throws a desperation forward pass" that saves the QB from a penalty.

Anyone who says SEC officials protect top ranked teams, hasn’t watched an LSU game.

Kind of makes sense being that the penalty is called "Intentional Grounding".

Same to me is if there is a broken route and the ball ends up 20 yards away fro anyone they never call it.

Guess no pressure so they assume not intentional?

If you saw Costellos face, it was definitely not Intentional grounding.

He definitely intentionally threw for 600+ yards though.

QB is usually tackled, and or in the grasp of a defender which can alter the velocity and trajectory of a pass, and is not considered “intentionally” grounding the ball, but unintentionally due to contact.
