If you like PLO, check out JNandez. You probably know him anyway cause he associated with upswingpoker(Doug Polk). He made me improve my preflop game big time. He's actually has a PLO course for 1K. I've been thinking of getting it but been trying to get some reviews of it.

that's the upswing course

i'm just playing a bunch right now to get used to it. the live games here are relatively soft, but i also play too NITy. last Friday i 3-bet pre with suited AA and flop comes AK8. 6 people called my $150 so it was a $900 pot. i led on the flop pot and a set of K and 8 both folded

should have checked and gotten it all in. likely lost $2k from the other 2 sets

*ETA: playing online just to read boards, and even with "free money" sites, the play is similar and fishy like live

So set over set over set? No one had QJ10 for miniwrap?

apparently not, but that's why i led pot

if i check, somebody with a questionable gutter or mini wrap may have led out like $400-500 into the $900 pot and then when the KK and 88 hands call/raise that pot gets so huge that it's possible (i only had a lil over $2k behind so not enough to create real fold equity in that scenario, esp live) that they call

that's how live players are. if you give them the bait they take it and run. so i am not upset about the hand ultimately. i'm thinking back in results-oriented thinking. also since both the K an 8 had sets, me making a boat was all but impossible (and possibly damning)

i shifted a bit and would 3-bet and C-bet bluff to take down some typical flop pots (of like $300 or so) later

A good friend of mine is a known live mtt pro with multiple wpt titles and old school online legend. Also a great all around dude. He recently told me the only person in the poker world he has had a real problem with on multiple occasions is Scott Siever

amount of shock: 0

even my boy Phil Helmuth has a pretty good reputation. he just has that irrational desire to win and hates losing and comes off terribly when he does. when he's not losing he loves to do the whole "best no limit hold em player in the world" shtick but that's somewhat understandable (high confidence can become irrational confidence). he also is still way up there in some games (i think he may be the best stud-based tourney pro in the world these days). Phil's blowups are more of a joke to the pros than something anyone takes personally anymore. Mount Helmuth is real

Siever is just an insufferable douche who treats everyone else like they're peons, not because he's projecting confidence, but because he truly believes he's way above anyone he meets.

even when he runs a great bluff, he openly criticizes one of the better MTT guys at the time hand v. Tobias Reinkemeier as if folding AA is completely unimaginable there

he also does shite like accusing Jungleman of angling the table. just terrible taste (which, for people who don't know, is basically the worst thing you can accuse another poker player of doing). the ENTIRE TABLE (including Phil Helmuth) calls out Siever for his bullshite on this hand

also on a side note, Jungle is THE BEST poker interview. dude is legitimately borderline autistic and supremely confident. it's amazing to listen to him talk about poker, players, and most comically, poker play

I've been watching some pretty good poker vlogs on YouTube. They go over hands they play in cash games in LV. Best one I've found is probably Andrew Neeme then Brad Owen. Seem like genuine guys. Neeme has really gained a following over the past 4 months. DNeg is kinda copying him with his new YouTube vlogs

Neeme is a good guy and explains his strategy well on his vlogs. His following has exploded on a short time. He does the poker pro life the right way, i.e. studying with others, putting in time, constantly trying to improve. All done with a good attitude.

i enjoy watching his vlog and he cornered the market of the LV grinder vlog niche by having good production values and not being a jaded a-hole (like trooper). however, he's kind of a station. watching his random PLO vlogging is hilarious b/c that station-ness has him holding on early and often

Trooper is a tool. I still watch, but he's toying around the edges at poker while thinking he is a good player. Many have offered to coach him up but he is either too arrogant to accept or too stupid to realize what he needs. His passion is editing and vlogging anyway.

Trooper somehow makes a living playing like 1-2 NL

that's amazing to me, esp considering he's doing it in Nit Vegas

the 1-3 games here are so much bigger than the 1-2 he plays and even with the drastically lower COL, i can't see anyone being a "pro" at 1-3 here

If you track his results, he's not making much of a living. Something is fishy. Either he's making more from youtube we don't know about, or he has other revenue streams. He could make money if he dealt and worked to improve his game. He's undisciplined and ripe for trolls. When he engages the trolls, it only encourages them. I watch because I like Vegas and enjoy the lifestyle. I've driven by Desert Manor many times and always laugh.

Neeme has nice vlog. His hand analysis is somewhat sticky sometimes. In a few spot in videos in the past where he got chk raise on the river and called with trips(essentially a bluff catcher). Who the often players ch raise river as a bluff in live games?

Speaking of Angleshoot, Alec Torelli been in some hot water recently. He's moving towards siever status.
