Cypress Pebble SF GC or Olympic Also is the running Riviera, LA CC, Mayacama, Torrey, Spyglass, Sherwoood, PGA West...
PGA West shouldn't be anywhere near the list of best courses in California, no matter which course you're talking about.

Ohio has Muirfield, Firestone and I guess Inverness.

Don't forget about Oregon:
Pacific Dunes
Bandon Dunes
Bandon Trail
Pacific Dunes was rated by Golf magazine ahead of Pebble Beach.
frick the golf publications, Eugene Country Club is the best in the state (Oregon). And anyone who puts any Bandon course ahead of Pebble should have their golf credentials stripped for life.
ETA: I've grown up playing most of the supposed "best" courses in AZ, and even though we are a winter golf destination spot, our courses don't hold a candle to the top courses around the country. First of all, desert golf sucks. The greens are gigantic. The courses at Desert Mountain and Troon North, which are highly regarded in golf magazines, is nothing but target golf with blind shots galore.

That is good for a few hole's shots on a course, but yeah, that shite is out of control for the most part in the desert.
