Instead of punishing the champs from smaller conferences by making them go thru the play in games
Well they are the worst teams in the field

I don't agree with the purists who scream about how it's not a meritorious way to crown a champ. It's very rare that the team that wins the NCAAT doesn't have a pretty strong claim to #1.
people say "the best team doesnt win" or how "it's a bad way to find the best team" and yet basically every year, one of the teams with a claim to being the best wins it, thus making them the best.
basically, uconn is the only team to have fricked this up for like 20+ years, and they've done it twice.

I don’t like, for instance, two 8 seeds playing a play-in game. That’s stupid to me
well, good news then, this doesnt happen

By new, I mean the more frequent upsets. We’ve had 15 over 2 three straight years, and all three went to the Sweet 16 at the least. 12 over 5 used to be the big thing, but one and done and the portal have accelerated the chaos.
There seems to be a different line of thinking between this and college football. In CFB, most fans seem to want the blue bloods, and the 2 best teams to meet in the title.
In CBB, you rarely have the two best teams meet for the title. I know several have posted on here about liking the upsets, but still wanting the big names and higher seeds in the Final Four. I love the madness, but I’m starting to lean that way as well.
There are almost 900 college football teams in America. How many do you want to invite?

I do think that if they are going to have play-in games they should only be between the last at-large teams. Teams from small conferences who won their conference tournament shouldn’t have to go one more step to get in. They already earned their way into the NCAA tournament.

11 seeds, whatever - same difference.

We generally do get a worthy champion, but the gripe that many of us have is the format.
there’s way too many mediocre at large teams in the field of 68. This waters down the tournament and devalues the regular season.
I have no problem with 15th seed and Ivy League champ Princeton knocking off 2nd seeded pac 12 champ Arizona.
What I don’t like seeing, however, is a 1 seed that went something like 30-3 in the regular season have a bad game and get knocked out in the round of 32 by an 8/9 at large that finished 7th in their conference.
