Do football coaches never learn?

Time and time again in a tie game we see coaches settle for 45+ yard field goals instead of trying to get closer, and miss.

I said the same thing in the game thread. why oh why do all coaches seem to just stop once they get to about the 30yd line? It's freaking ridiculous

That was horrible. 47 yard field goal on 3rd down? After you see Houston make the same mistake by being too conservative? Unbelievable

You have a greater chance of missing that long of a field goal than turning the ball over or getting a penalty

I hate kicking on third down. Fumbled snaps for field goals are so wildly unlikely.

At minimum, run the ball down the middle for a couple more yards or at least put it where your kicker wants it.

If it's 3rd and manageable and I have time to work with, I'm gonna try a fake FG. Fail and I'll kick on 4th.
