I edited. I feel like they played in Atlanta when I lived there. I assume the show you're talking about was at Lakewood?

I'm sure it's changed names likely but at the time it was called the HiFi Buys Amphitheater.

How? You didn't really think that through did you?

They are objectively very talented musicians with a long and successful career of highly popular albums and highly attended tours. That is fact, not opinion.

Try again.

Yeah, same place. It was called the Aaron's Ampitheatre at Lakewood when I lived there. Now it's called the Cellairis Ampitheatre at Lakewood. It changes names all the time.

Give me the exact criteria, quantitative or qualitative, for what defines a great band. Is it selling more than 500k albums? 1M? Being a band for more than 20 years?

You can’t. That’s why it’s your opinion and it’s NOT “objective” or “unquestioned”.

So

quote:

They may not be your style of music, and that's fine, but one's opinion is very rarely if ever fact.

just contradicts your first statement.

There are four or five of you guys in here who consider yourselves infallible, and you will never back down from it. You’re not.

Then there are no great bands according to your logic.

Cry harder about it. You're not coming across as a big enough bitch right now.

There are many bands that could be considered great by most people. Even iconic bands like The Beatles or The Rolling Stones will still have detractors that will tell you that they aren’t that great. It’s the nature of music. 311 is a band that has been relatively successful for a long period of time. They have fairly limited appeal, though. To declare them objectively and unquestionably great is silly.

Yes, I disagree with you on this point, so any subsequent post is me crying harder like a bitch.

Those people would be stupid haters who can't see through their own preferences to recognize the long lasting effect that bands such as these have had on their genre and others as well.

For example, I'm not really a fan of the dead, but they were all extremely talented and they've inspired a lot of the bands I so listen to so I cannot deny their greatness just because their music isn't my favorite.

No, they would be honestly evaluating music. Any other approach is silly.

I don't give two shits what you think about the Beatles, or how many millions of people think the Beatles are great. If the songs don't sound good to me, then the songs suck.

Any other approach to judging music is dishonest and contrived

You don't know what "objectively" means.

Oh, and you also don't know what "unquestionably" means.

Holy shite -- I didn't realize that we were having an irony contest.

dude that likes 311 because of the technical chops of the band members, says that they are "objectively" and "unquestionably" a great band, and then later makes a claim that human beings are simply not allowed to dislike the rolling stones or the beatles is calling somebody a music snob.

Just wow. You are terrible at posting and in life. Your taste in music sucks too.
