Private school enrollment declines

Not a problem on Hearthstone..not even with the rise of St Michael, Parkview,etc..and parish sprawl towards Ascension.

Winning at a select school is easier than winning at a non select school.

Mahaffey won all the time at U-High. He has not duplicated the same success at Walker.

People in BR can either send their kids to a private school or a failing school. I don’t see enrollment decline for CHS SJA, UHS, Dunham, etc

it's a shrinking demographic, if it's like others in LA(including NOLA) their reject list keeps getting smaller and trickle of those that previously would not have gotten in continues to rise.

it's also increasingly difficult and high maintenance to coach at private schools as nationwide their enrollment declines coupled with a trend of giving parents WAY WAY too much input.

This flat wrong, maybe for the New Orleans private schools especially the catholic ones, but not at CHS BR as it relates to enrollment. Not saying CHS parents and key "boosters" movers and shakers do not have input. But its less and less now given how much recent success and just how large the school has gotten. Think if Mahaffey is willing to give up the state benefits, its not like he has been in the system that long, he will get offered and take it. Simoneaux might have been the perfect bridge coach between two great recruiters.

You'd be surprised how many leave CHS when they either get cut from a sport or get beat out at a position

Catholic does not and will not have an enrollment issue any time soon. Catholic is the top school in BR, and the administration there gets it, and has for the last decade or so.

Their "reject" list has never been similar to the NOLA schools for a number of reasons. Asked somebody and they said the enrollment including 8th graders was over 1,200 and it will grow next year, with this senior class being smaller than the other 3 in total enrollment. They will go and get a recruiter and tap back into the North BR and parochial ranks earlier. They also have a ton of talent in the Freshman and Sophomore classes with two kids already getting either LSU offers or looks. Btw not a catholic graduate.

Would not surprise me on bit, but that will not affect the overall enrollment too too much. Nor will it lessen CHS to go and replace them in the younger ranks.

I don't disagree with this assessment. Sadly, I think a lot of this has to do with the weakened influence/move away from the Brothers of the Sacred Heart and liberalization with increased lay person influence.

The sidelines and courts look a lot different from the days when I was in school there. Not necessarily saying the increased enrollment of those who would not have gotten before is a bad thing because I think the overall influence of boys in that environment is a good thing.

the catholic feeder schools from baton rouge, ascension and central and even West baton rouge are enough to keep CHS full
that base will never go away

I don’t see Sid going to Catholic at the stage of his career. If Catholic wanted Sid, they would have gotten him years ago.

Its gonna come down to Lil Weiner or Brew.

I got my bets on Weiner. Esp since Dunham was runner up last week.

I'll say this, as someone who is familiar with another school run by the brothers, Catholic is leaps and bounds ahead of that one, in regards to athletics. From what I know of CHS, they will actually take kids in and tell them pay what you can pay. Which say what you want, is what the mission of the brothers was and still should be. That attitude has helped Catholic very much in the last 8-10 years, in regards to athletics.

What’s hurt the NOLA Catholic schools is Haynes, Thomas Jefferson, and now Patrick Taylor and Kenner Discovery. When similar places open in BR you’ll see Catholic enrollment affected. They’ll still get all the athletes they want however
