Time to start clawing back in it. No Hamels this series. First two games are against not very good pitchers. But the offense has to click. Hopefully Bregs and Tyler can build on last night.

I'm not sure the Astros can score enough to win this series

What's the lead gonna be?
3.5, 5.5, 7.5, or 9.5.

AKA the archenemy up north. AKA the loathed, hated (yet highly respected) Rangers.

Brian T. Smith doesn't have to say respected (because it goes without saying, all teams are at this level are respected) but if he doesn't SOME Astros fans will think that's too harsh.

Say it BT Smith, we hate them. They are now enemy number 1, the rival, and must be loathed and hated.

The trade deadline is over. See those guys, see those jerseys, they are now the enemy.

Also, I posted this in the other thread: Re: Hinch

To be fair, Fiers got plenty of questionable calls also.

I don't think there was any reason to get mad at the umps, they were all over the place the entire series.
Both teams benefited from it.

Hell that one curveball that Fiers threw, Smoak started walking to the dugout and it was called a ball after a fastball that was 6 inches out was called a strike in the same AB

Did anyone see Gibbons get fired up when calls went against him? Is he a terrible, shitty manager as well?

Do most of y'all place blame for our current struggles on Hinch or Luhnow? I'm just curious.

I see it as a mixture of both but place much more blame on the roster we have, aka Luhnow. Hinch is certainly not perfect and has made plenty of mistakes in this stretch, but this is what he was given. And I overall think Luhnow has done a great job, but this roster is very flawed.

After we sweep Arlington, we'll be right back in it.

I mean, Hinch has his faults, but he doesn't have any control on roster construction. I don't think anyone predicted Keuchel would be terrible, or that none of our rookie batters would play well.

Luhnow constructed the roster, and it has it's faults. But we just played like the best team in baseball for 2 months,It isn't all bad. We've got a pretty talented core of Springer, Altuve, Correa, McCullers, Giles, etc.

Luhnow wants to build a team that competes every year and I think he's on the verge of that. We've got a team full (outside of 3 or 4 hitters) of guys that are boom or bust and they all seem to boom or bust together. That'll go away over time, I mean look at the guys he's drafted recently.

This should be the winter where we get some pretty good roster turnover and maybe find some veterans that can battle and hit the ball.

I'm not a full on "trust the process" person but, I think overall they've done a pretty good job of taking a roster of nothing but aging vets and no farm system to one with youth all over and a loaded farm system.

ETA: TLDR Luhnow shoulders most of the blame, but has overall done a good job. Hinch makes dumb decisions but he cant make pitchers pitch better or batters hit better.

Yeah I agree with you. If you look at the talent in our system and our roster vs when Luhnow started, it's night and day. This offseason is huge for taking that next step. He's done a good job of giving us flexibility with vets as the youngsters come up, but it's time to build a true contender this offseason I think.

Most Dallas people snicker at Arlington and Forth Worth as little brother. But you are right that they are elitist cowgirls.

TL;DR Our hitters are young and need time to adjust.

People were trying to argue with Ensberg on Twitter the other day about our crap hitting. Someone asked what Teoscar has changed to make him hit so much better this year. Ensberg basically said "the dude has had more reps in the minors so he's finally figuring it out." We have a bunch of guys that have shot up through the system and rarely struggled, so they're dealing with struggle for the first time in the majors. Tyler White being an easy example. He went back down, got some reps, got his mind right, and has looked more comfortable in the box the last couple games. Correa is 21, Bregman 22, Reed 23(?), etc. with Valbuena hurt and Rasmus and Gomez sucking there's not much we can do to protect the rooks.

You can't change Rasmus, Gomez, Gattis, etc. they are what they are. But we've seen Altuve, Correa, Springer make adjustments that have worked well, and I think the younger guys can do it too. Our minor league system has developed impact pitchers. Once the young hitters adjust and we hopefully compliment them with GOOD veteran bats instead of mediocre ones, good things will happen.

Yep. We need to fill in the spots around the youngsters with steady and more consistent veterans instead of what we have
