We may have overlooked a key factor in the disturbing offensive trends that may get remedied tomorrow. No grasshoppers have been consumed by Julia.

The lack of production by correa, altuve, springer, reddick, bregman, Gonzalez and McCann only highlights the ineptitude of guys like stassi, gattis, Marisnick and Fisher.

We expect that first group to be the biggest producers and the second group to contribute occasionally, not have to win games for us.

Marisnick at least provides a defensive option. Fisher has not developed at all. Stassi has never been an offensive guy, even in the minor league and gattis serves absolutely no purpose for this team at all.

While we ponder what to do with the weak players it’s really the core guys that need to get their asses in gear. They tried to say all the right things: #NeverSettle, stay hungry, the road goes through Houston, but other than 3 of our 5 starters, they’re not doing much to prove it. They remind me of last year’s cubs. Unfocused.

Not downplaying how awful it’s been to watch, but I’m not worried about the offense (I’d imagine 99% of Stros fans agree...at least if you exclude the bottom 3)

However, bullpen was a big concern coming into the season and they’ve somehow exceeded their shitty expectations in the first 2+ weeks

I mean....Devo is the only guy we actually have confidence in right now, correct? Harris I guess hasn’t been awful but still. I’m not worried about Peacock yet however his past 3 outings have been disasters. Other than those 3 I mentioned, you got the 2 noobs who have been meh, Giles, Jabroni, Sipp/Hoyt

I’m not overreacting bc of 2 weeks. I feel this way because of how the pen performed last year as well. We’re closer to needing to deal for 3 (reliable) relievers at the deadline than we are being able to count on our current pen and perhaps adding 1 guy. I’m not regretting the trade even a tiny bit of course, but would feel better having Musgrove back there

All that said, it’s a long season and things will happen that we don’t expect. Hopefully 1 or 2 of the guys take a big step forward over the next month or 2. Perhaps even someone from Fresno could be a surprise
