Why isn't Paredes on the big league squad?

He is a butcher in the field (even in RF) and doesn't have the bat to hit in the DH spot.

Why did Bedard only go 4 IP last night? I know the lead was huge...I figured they would let him go 5 and get the W. Was he on a pitch count?

He was on a 65 pitch limit.

I can't believe I forgot this. Paredes at the hot corner was always entertaining

Is his bat that far off though? He was 318/13/59 Last year and is off to another hot start.

His bat isn't anything special. His triple slash line last year was 318/348/477 (825 OPS) whereas the average line in the extremely offensive friendly PCL was 278/345/430 (775 OPS). The reason he hit for such a high average was his BABIP which was a sky high .375 for the season. He struck out 19% of his ABs (that number has ballooned to 25% every time he goes to the majors) and walked at a paltry rate of 4%.

I find it quite remarkable how inept he is in the field considering he was once a middle infielder. He started out as a shortstop in the Yankees org before having an arm injury which pushed him to 2nd. He was then pushed by Altuve from 2nd to 3rd in AA. The Astros tried moving him back to 2nd in AAA but that didn't work out so they moved to RF which went horribly. He has been playing both RF/3B so far this season.

I'm pulling for the guy, but when a player has his K and BB rates coupled with pitiful defense, said player needs to have a monster bat to hold down a roster spot (although we are talking about the Houston Astros so...)

I love baseball. I follow my team, transactions, prospects, etc. and player batting average & HRs. But I have no earthly clue about all of the baseball statistics.

WHIP
BABIP
what the hell constitutes a "hold"
OPS

And all that other crap

Someone remind me who the Cardinals traded Wallace to y'all for? I can't remember

NVM I just looked it up he was in the Holliday trade with Oakland and then the Astros somehow ended up with him

We flipped a Phillies prospect in the Oswalt trade to Oakland for Wallace

It definitely raised a red flag when Wallace was bouncing around as a top prospect. Now we see why.

Yeah. I thought it was a salary deal why he kept being dumped. Then he joined us and I saw just how cheap he came

WHIP = walks and hits per innings pitched
BABIP = Batting average of balls put into play
OPS = on base percentage plus slugging

FYI, Porter said on the radio earlier that Wallace would not be playing tonight. As for Carter, Is it unreasonable to hope that he could become the next Adam Dunn ?

He'll need to take more than one walk every eight games to come close.

Well, Carter only had 260 plate appearances last season, but if you filter for every player with at least 250 PA you will find Carter had the 4th highest walk rate (15%) and the 9th highest isolated power (.275) in the entire MLB.

I guess it's not unreasonable to hope it happens, but it would be unreasonable to expect it. If you extrapolate his numbers from last season to a full season of PAs then he would be Adam Dunn more or less.

In minor league news, Jarred Cosart went 5 innings tonight allowing 1 hit and 3 walks while striking out 7. Paredes hit his first dinger of the year and OKC is up 3-0 in the 7th.

CC has a travel day.

Lancaster has a pacific start time.

Quad Cities was rained out.

It's game time. I'm fully prepared for a strikeout fest, but I'm trying to be optimistic today.

So, I say we score 6 runs and win our first series.

Altive blasted one to right and almost went yard...Saunders a tremendous catch and he may have broken his collar bone
