Well yeah he lost a bunch of weight, that's all the media talked about this offseason.
CC started 4-2 with 3.35 ERA last year
2012: 4-0 4.58 ERA
2011: 2-1 2.12 ERA
2010: 3-1 3.12 ERA
2009: 1-2 4.73 ERA
So slow start is a bit of a reach, he has started respected 3 of the last 5 years. The dude is obviously declining and the lost of velocity has obviously effected him. He says that he worked on his location in offseason but we're seeing what happens when he misses right now.
McCann signing was much needed after the black hole out of the catcher position last year and the contract wasn't overboard either.
