You misspelled “Joe Montana”.

Joe Montana and Brady are basically football's version of Larry Bird, not the greatest nor most elite of physical skills but really the embodiment of the mind being the greatest weapon

That said Marino was a really great leader and very tough, he didn't improv like Favre where Favre would throw it anywhere and make the most bone-headed mistakes but Marino scared the hell out of you with the quickest release and basically perfect passing mechanics. His love for throwing the ball so much might have been his team's undoing though as the 49ers exposed in that Super Bowl when they went to a nickel set and contained him after they jumped out to that 10-7 lead early, c'est la vie.

I have to give credit to Bird, he was more athletic than he looked.

Not that surprising considering all throughout Tom’s career we constantly heard how Rodgers is better.

Maybe Bert Jones.

Bert had one of the best arms in football. He woukd have been a HOF QB if not for his shoulder injury. Bill Belichick has been quoted saying Bert was the best QB he has ever seen.

I’m pretty sure that rule was specific to you can’t hit the QB in his legs while throwing.

Doubtful. The Orange Bowl was a bitch for opposing teams, especially at night. All the glory days of the Dolphins and Hurricanes were during the Orange Bowl era. It was just Miami’s night. But the Dolphins, including Marino, blew it in the playoffs a month later

I say this as a Bears fan, but the Bears capitalized a lot on how stubborn most 1980’s coaches were. The Bears ran a 46 base defense all season, which is a bit of a gimmicky defense if you’re using it as a base.

Shula’s offense had a lot of 3-5 step drop quick passes and 3 receiver sets already built in, which is a good counter to the 46 as well as other 1980’s base defenses.

In modern times, by about week 3 teams would stop trying to run slow evolving play action passes on the 1985 Bear’s defense, in the 1980’s that process took a few years.
