Well, I'm sure it wasn't just him, but he actually makes some sense in his letter to Stern:

quote:

When will we just change the name of 25 of the 30 teams to the Washington Generals?

Well, with this trade getting blocked, you can change the name of the Hornets to the Generals. Or the Contracted.

Dan Gilbert, hero to all, leader of the poorer side of NBA billionaires club. Also guy who gave Ramon Sessions $16M and Daniel Gibson $20M.

An NBA spokesman said owners “didn’t kill the deal,” instead citing “basketball reasons,” for why the league office blocked the trade.

What Gilbert and the rest of the owners dont seem to understand is that this is was the BEST possible outcome for the Hornets

Gilbert, more than anybody, should know what happpens when a superstar walks for nothing, which is whats gonna happen to the Hornets now

They kill the Hornets if they dont let this go through

The hornets are dead anyways. How much better does this make them? The super stars in this league have absolutely waaaaaaay to much power. Chris Paul is worth so much more than what they are getting in return, brand and talent wise. I'm glad it was shot down, and I hope in that as a result the Hornets get something better. You can let these superstars walk before their contract ends and get scrubs in return. The NBA might as well be a 10 team league.

Paul walks after this year and signs with LA.

There was nothing better. Thats the point.

That trade made the Hornets a better team than they were WITH Paul last year. The pulled 4 starters and draft picks for a guy who didnt want to be with them anymore.

Maybe Paul will sign with New Orleans and win a championship with us to show the league up!

Better than three above average players and two draft picks? If the Hornets are prevented by the league from trading Paul this whole season, they get nothing and he gets to leave the team at the end of the season as a free agent. This deal was about the best they were going to get, and the league straight fricked them.

Or NY...

Not to mention the disaster its gonna be if he's forced to play all season here, now.

He HAS to be traded.

If not, the Hornets should strike on their own, if possible.
