Could be a variety of reasons. I think Ainge believes that the power has shifted a bit and wants to regain some of the leverage.
But who knows. It is ALL bullshite fed to reporters for a targeted reason.

you dont leak the offer like the pelicans did on wednesday or outright troll through your twitter like they did yesterday if you have any intention on taking the offer. i get the sense that some third team is going to take last night as encouragement to go all in on a one year rental deal and see if they can either convince him to stay or just win a title
