Curt Schilling peddles conspiracy theories around FL shooting; may not make it to the HOF

Curt Schilling continues making it impossible to remember him as a potential Hall of Fame pitcher. Instead, the former MLB ace and current Breitbart radio personality insists on stirring up controversy while pushing his political agenda.
That was the case again on Saturday, when Schilling angered the masses by retweeting a conspiracy theory that alleges one of the survivors from the mass shooting at Majory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla. was actually a paid crisis actor.
Just to be clear, in the yearbook photo Schilling retweeted that supposedly proves Hogg is still a high school student in California, a student pictured two rows above is clearly seen wearing a Stoneman Douglas Eagles shirts.
Sadly, this all falls right in line with many of the other politically motivated and controversial commentaries that ultimately cost Schilling his job at ESPN and have irreparably damaged his credibility.
To date, it’s also seemingly hampered his Hall of Fame case. Though Schilling’s percentage increased from 45 to 51.2 in 2018, he’ll enter his seventh year needing to gain nearly another 25 percent to reach the 75 percent required for election. If he fails to meet that mark after 10 years he’ll fall off the writer’s ballot.
Some believe his political opinions shouldn’t impact the Hall of Fame voting. Perhaps that’s true, but this latest incident might be enough to make some of the voters who supported him this past year reconsider. Regardless of where anyone stands on that debate, there’s no denying that Schilling has inflicted the damage on his own reputation.

You do realise he’s a right wing nutjob, not a left wing one?

Are we still talking about his dumb arse conspiracy theory tweet?

It’s Schilling’s entire persona. He’s conservative, he thinks differently than todays journalists, and worst of all, he has the audacity to voice his opinions. The media does this to anyone who strays from their progressive narrative. Dissenting views are punished. It’s been spilling into the world of sports for awhile now.

Curt is a weird dude and has really hurt his image with his political talk. This board will say stick to sports when they disagree with an athlete on political viewpoint but will defend someone like Curt because he has their same viewpoint. Dude was told multiple times to dial it back at ESPN and never could do it. Curt wants to be Alex Jones type of personality and of course that will backfire on him.

Going against the grain is fine, especially in today's social media driven world where we're all supposed to be brand bots and fall in line on certain issues. If you want to voice your opinion about how the identity politics that have engulfed or country are absurd or misguided, go right ahead. However, claiming a school shooting didn't happen -- because of whatever conspiracy -- is beyond the fricking pale.
Schilling's try-hard douchbaggery undercuts people like Ben Shapiro who are actually going against accepted narratives in a constructive way.

My biggest thing is, why do the HOF voters even care about his political views, etc.? It shouldn't matter if he's a jackass off the field, if he wasn't cheating the game, then he should be in.

I agree. I don't care if the guy is in ISIS. Put him in if his play warrants it.
