Cubs vs Mets: Series Preview Discussion Thread

This series is going to be a dog fight and I see it going at least 6.
Mets have a deep, young rotation.
Cubs have 2 aces and deep, young lineup.
If I tell you the Mets would win a 5 game series where Grienke and Kershaw make 4 of the starts, you would have LOL in my face. That's impressive right there. The Mets didn't score that many runs in those 4 games, just enough to win.
I think just about everyone agrees the Cubs have a better offense over the Dodgers.
Game 1 will be Lester vs Harvey. Harvey wtfpwnt the Cubs earlier this year, 3 hits over 7 with 9 Ks and 0 ERs (Cubs won the game in the 9th btw). Harvey can been inconsistent and Lester is a proven stud in October.
Game 2 will be Arrieta vs most likely Syndagaard.
MY KEY TO THE SERIES:
My key for the Cubs is to continue doing what they are best at, working the count deep and getting the Mets SPs out the game by the 6th-7th. (Harvey threw 97 pitches in 5IP in NLDS) Cubs must win one of the games in NY. They cannot be staring 0-2 and a DeGrom vs Hammel/Hendricks in game 3.
I like the Cubs to have slight advantage in games 1 & 2.
I'm a tad nervous with 5 games in 6 days. This favors the Mets rotation. If Cubs fall behind in the series, they will be in same position as Dodgers were and forced to start Lester and Arrieta on short rest.

If Familia can do what he did yesterday a couple more times the Mets will win. No one else in the Mets bullpen is trustworthy he's going to need a couple 2 inning saves

I think the Cubs will have to win in 6. Game 7 is looking like a DeGrom vs Hendricks/Hammel (again). Ughhhhh.

I still think its ridiculous that the Mets have homefield, even though the Cubs have the best record remaining in the post season. Think about that for a sec. They dont get home field for the NLCS or the World Series....

They are a wild card team playing a division winner...sorry

A wild card team that would have won any other division in baseball. Im sorry you can't see the lunacy in that!

That would be a disaster. It would be all but over.
Just going to come down to timely hitting and a strong bullpen.
Also, everytime I see Daniel Murphy, I'm reminded of Howard Johnson.

Both of their starts worked out OK against St. Louis. Obviously, it would be nice if we had a really good 3rd starter, but this team has just stepped up when they've had to all year long. I do agree that the Cubs need to get either game 1 or game 2 in New York. Should be a great series.

Travis Wood will play a key role in this series.

Also home-field in either the LCS or WS always alternated between divisions and leagues respectively prior to the implementation of the Wild Card.

Hated to see HOJO come to the plate when I was watching games growing up. Seemed like he was one of those guys that always got on base. Hopefully Murphy is nothing like HOJO for the next week.

Cubs were 7-0 against the Mets this season and outscored them 27-11. Cubs in 5.

That was before the Mets got Cespedes, and they were playing awful baseball early. This Mets team is definitely not the same.

The last time the Cubs played the Mets in the NLCS Henry Rowengartner pulled off the hidden ball trick and struck out Hedo with the floater.

That was actually a one game winner take all for the division championship.

I'm tired of seeing this stat. It's pointless.
For any of those games, did the Mets have D'Arnoud? Wright? Conforta? Cespedes?
Bot these teams are completely different than when they played in July.

I understand. I don't think the Mets have the horses. Cubs in 5.
