I believe you’re right but it’s hard for me to let the SEC championship go. I’m still hanging on to the days of when winning this was one of college football’s greatest feats. I know we will never get it back, but I’m not ready to say goodbye.

That's no longer the case. Conference champs get a spot but BYE is determined by seeding.

I’m aware.

That is why I’m stating that if you want a conference championship to mean something, reward it with a bye.

Why wouldn’t they?

Simply put: most coaches have bonuses for making then winning conference championships.

Do we also do away with conferences?

Or shou,d SEC grab 4 more teams and split into SEC 1934 and SEC 2025 leagues?

I would argue for a mini conference play-in in model. Here is how it would work: Top 8 SEC teams would play each other seeded 1 to 8. Home field advantage to the top seed. The four winners would advance to the playoffs. Same for the B1G. The top 4 Big12 would play the top 4 ACC. Again the 4 winners would advance to the playoffs. Notre Dame and G5 would be only the top 4 with only two winners advancing. That would be 14 teams. If they want expand to 16 they could then choose wildcards via 4 teams playing another playin game based on the tops ranked teams left. Two winners advance.

These games would be played instead of a ccg. It would bring in more money, the teams would play hard because even tOSU and Indiana would not want to play in the extra playin game. It solves the problem of unbalanced schedules. It also means the committee is not as important.

Note: The reason why I have the Big12 playing the ACC for four spots is because they are not as good as the B1G and SEC alone, but combined they can produce 4 good playoff teams. And a Big12 vs ACC playin would make money. Using this model for this year you could get 4 big12 teams in and 0 ACC because the 4 best big12 teams would beat the 4 best ACC teams.
