College football is on the path to being a shite version of its professional counterpart.
It's already there. Constant realignment and unchecked free agency have made college football so much less fun than it used to be.

I always liked the bowl system. I lost a lot of interest once it became championship or bust. But I was okay with it. With coaches salaries, NIL and basically free agency, my interest has dwindled.

I, too, found it interesting when OSU beat a #1 USC in the fog in Corvalis during the 2006 season
The fog game was in 2004 and Oregon State nearly beat them that year before getting them in both 2006 and 2008. There was something about Corvallis and Pullman that always seemed to give Carroll's teams trouble. I mean, Mike Riley did have some pretty good teams at Oregon State but were nowhere near USC's equal on paper.

Wow!!!
Love jumping to the calling just because you disagree.
The target market for many in the entertainment industry is 18-35ish. So they are going to trend society, athletics, movies, etc to cater to that demographic. They could care less what someone pushing 50 thinks.
Many in today’s generation don’t follow or root for a favorite team, it’s all about the player. Is Lebron James signed with the Boston Celtics tomorrow, many would run online to get his Celtics Jersey.
Then you have the group that has a favorite team, say LSU, but then in postseason play will cheer… “SEC! SEC!” While Bama claims another national title. Not realizing or caring how that added title may effect things down the road for their beloved team.
Rivalries have become sort of “so what” or “why do we hate that Falcons so much?” To the younger generation. Hence why those pushing these new changes in conference alignment and rules in sports are doing so. To try to lure in or keep that 18-35 demographic where the competition for their entertainment dollar is more competitive than ever.

the SEC will still reign supreme because their expansion and expansion options have only fueled inter-conference hatred.
Hell, I’d argue this latest expansion has fueled intra-conference hatred, especially within the SEC.
