The big debate is conference strength and scheduling. Teams play almost their whole schedule against only the teams in their conference. There is not really enough bug OOC games to truly guage the schedule strength of conferences typically. So the whole point of the playoff is to eliminate bias.

Also the point of the playoff is to find the #1 team. Not winning your conference means you can't be better than #2 so why should we include them. That is just stupid.

Tell the conferences to select a way to declare their champion and then the system would accept that one team.

It would be ridiculous for say Bama to go undefeated beat UF twice just to lose to them in a BCS playoff in the 3rd matchup and UF be the NC.

Also making all conferences have an equal chance would probably make the conferences more equal.

6 best teams.
Regardless of conference affiliation.
Determined by BCS formula.
Crappy conferences can continue to send their crappy champions to those meaningless bowl exhibition games they and fans of current system love so much. No automatic playoff bids.
OOC schedules stay relevant.
Reg season still intense.

This mostly

the conference champs of bcs leagues are still guaranteed a bcs game.... but only entry into the playoff if they are ranked highly enough

I could see taking the top four bcs ranked teams automatically... maybe 5 and 6 are the 5/6 in the bcs rankings unless the committee sees good cause to consider another team (esp something like the 5/6 have been beaten 2-4 times and there's some 0 or 1 loss team that played a decent schedule ranked lower

Anyway, the big thing is it's not the conference champ stuff... i just hate that idea with a passion... because it willfully ignores 4 of the 12 regular season games everyone plays in teh sec, acc, big 12, big 10... more than that in the big east

it's consideration for the national championship... not who won the right conference games and earned the conference championship
