Similar to the NHL: 14, 10, and 6.

Combined with full timeouts, this is more than enough.

The constant breaks ruin the flow.

While we at it, they gotta switch to 4, 10 minute quarters.

Yeah the constant stoppages kill me in college basketball.

Agree. While we’re at it keep tourney games the same.

Networks want more ads? Stretch halftime a few minutes, those games are excruciating to watch.

I'd like that. Reset team fouls. I hate when both teams are shooting FTs on over the back calls with 10 minutes left in the half

Resetting free throws. Too many games end up turning into free throw shooting contests because teams are in the double bonus by the 8-minute mark

I loathe when a team calls timeout at 16:02 and they go to commercial. And then 3 seconds after the inbounds pass there's a foul and they are contractually obligated to go to ANOTHER commercial for TV timeouts.

I freaking detest it.

Or raise the foul totals for the bonus.

Same difference.

Switch it to 15,10,5.

Makes no sense to have overtime and do a media time out for the 4 minute mark.

Right now, there are 8 media timeouts per game, correct?

Switch to four 10-minute quarters. Media timeout under 5 minutes of each quarter.

That gives you 4 media timeouts per game. But then also 2 extra quarter breaks. That gets you to 6 breaks per game, which is exactly what you asked for in the OP.

Works perfectly.

14-10-6 is nice because you get bigger chunks of uninterrupted game play at the beginning and end of each half.

Not exactly.

There's still the never ending free throw barrage if a team reaches the bonus with 12 minutes left in a half, even if that foul number to reach the bonus was increased to 8 or 9. A reset would lead to less foul shots, without question. Which means less stoppages.

5 fouls in a quarter should put a team in the 2-shot foul bonus. Get rid of the 1-and-1. The defensive team should not be rewarded in any way for fouling, which the 1-and-1 does, in my opinion.

If you want even less foul shots, then move the bonus number to 6 fouls. There's a lot of ways to play around with this.

Just for further clarification:

If a team gets to the bonus (7 fouls) with 12 minutes left, they are shooting free throws for the rest of the half. That is your endless barrage of free throws.

Under the new way, a team would reach the bonus in the quarter two fouls quicker (5 fouls), so they would begin to shoot free throws sooner on the front end. However, once the new quarter starts, there would have to be 5 more fouls committed to reach the bonus again. This nets you three less trips to the line PER TEAM on non-shooting fouls.

If you made the bonus number 6 fouls per quarter, it would net you FIVE less trips per team on non-shooting fouls. Personally, I like this way better.

ETA: This is not some sort of revolutionary idea. I believe it is exactly what the women's game is doing currently. I'm just explaining the reasoning and benefits of it.

You'd have to lower the threshold if you changed to quarters. I don't know what the effect would be, but you could be right.

Either way, the logistics for TV timeouts in the NCAA is deeply flawed and needs revamped.
