Great player but a royal cock on the field.. I've grown so tired of his glory days quotes about how tough he and his were and how soft modern day players have become..
Shut your whore mouth!

That is an awesome pic.
Same here. I'm probably younger than most here posting in this thread but as a kid, I had an infatuation with the NFL players from the past. If you ask anyone else my age they have probably never heard of players like Don Hutson, Sammy Baugh or Norm Van Brocklin. I had an obsession with reading books about the old NFL & an addiction when it came to old the NFL Film shows.

Concrete Charlie is a legend. His hit on Frank Gifford is one of greatest hits of all time. The hit knocked Gifford out of for two whole seasons. Chunk was a tough son of a bitch.
I saw a show about that game and the story Sam Huff told about that tackle was funny as shite. Most definitely an embellished story but still funny. Short version: Huff and teammates wondered if Gifford was dead, after the game they go to lockerroom and see somebody being wheeled out on a stretcher..."he really did kill Gifford." But they found out is was a fan that suffered a heart attack.
Bednarick definitely hated Gifford when they played and took great joy in that hit. He came across like he still didn't like him after their playing days.

Wasn't this due to Gifford being the perceived "pretty boy" running back while playing for a team in New York?

Re Chuck Noll:
Noll did what Bednarik considered was a dirty block and was determined to get revenge. On the next series Noll pulled out blocking for a RB and turned his head to make sure the RB was behind him -- which you are NOT supposed to do. Bednarik put up his forearm -- a move that is now illegal -- and when Noll turned his head back he ran straight into the arm. And fell down immediately.
And he didn't move.
Bednarik began to worry he'd actually killed him. He started to wonder if he'd get arrested, and what his mother would think. Finally after several minutes Noll moved around and left the field. "Chuck Noll was the second most relieved man in the stadium that day" Bednarik said later. "The most relieved man was Chuck Bednarik".

Gifford would claim it was because Bednarik was a dirty player. As I said he belittled the famous hit, which no doubt pissed off Bednarik even more.
