Christian Coleman breaking the previous 60M world record three times in a few weeks
I know track doesn't have a huge stateside presence outside of the buildup to the Olympics, but this is a big deal. Christian Coleman had a great 2017. He beat Bolt in the 100 to get a silver at the worlds, he won the NCAA double both indoors and outdoors (60/200, 100/200) and went pro. This was at least the best season since Xavier Carter's sophomore year before he signed that 12 million dollar Nike deal and then squandered his talent and got into dozens of bar fights and apartment complex brawls.

So far Coleman's 2018 has been ever better. He broke a 20 year old world record in the 60 meters in late January. Maurice Green's 20 year old record was 6.39. Coleman put up a 6.37 He then broke his own world record at US nationals three weeks later and ran a 6.34. Then, last night at the World Indoors, he ran another 6.37.

He is just 21 years old.

To be fair, his first time under 6.39 doesn’t count as a WR because USADA wasn’t on site and they didn’t have electronic starting blocks.

By breaking the WR At the US championship he cost himself $100k+. IAAF had either a $100 or $150k bonus for WR at the world championship. He ran under the old record, but not his time from ABQ. There is speculation that he may not submit his faster time for ratification so that he can collect the bonus for breaking the WR at Worlds.

Haha, I heard about the 100K bonus but I don’t know if the IAAF will fall for that since it happened at such a high profile event. Can he really do that?

He did drive straight to Atlanta to meetup with an appropriate drug testing agency after that clemson meet, but it was wasted effort due to the blocks and a 0 gun test not being performed. Thankfully Clemson did invest in some electronic blocks after that meet and does use them for races with a decent chance of a record being set. A wise investment since that seems to be the new fastest indoor track and is attracting high level staged college races and pro athletes.

To add to the OP, last year Coleman tied the collegiate record in the 60, set the collegiate record in the 100 and had the fastest time in the world, came within .01 of the indoor 200 collegiate and world record, and his outdoor 200 time in cold, wind, and rain at Kentucky was faster than the time that won the world championships.

A truly incredible year.
