I just assume they’re all doping and may the best man win.

He failed for asthma medication which he uses to treat his sports induced asthma. No performance enhancement from the drug that he uses has been found. The only thing I have seen that has been hypothesized is it could help with weight loss. But I doubt he was struggling with his weight at stage 17 which is when the urine test was administered

I’m shocked. A cyclist was doping?

Not doping like Lance Armstrong. Sounds like he just fricked up the dosage of his asthma medication

Least surprising news ever. Anyone with a set of eyes could see Froome is "not normal."

Side note:

What's a good site (or subreddit) to following cycling?
After actually watching the Tour de France last year I realized that it's actually a pretty badarse sport.

Nobody competing in the Tour de France has asthma serious enough to require medication. It's a performance enhancer.

To me the pro peloton is definitely not on the stuff that they use to be. Chris froome is 6'1'' and races at 143-146 pounds. While in contrast Lance is 5'10'' and raced at 165 pounds. That is like the difference between a wide receiver and an offensive lineman in pro cycling. And yet LA won the tour at the weight.

Asthma among pro cyclists is common and well documented. It is caused by the deep inhalation required by intense exercise and particulate matter that finds its' way into their lungs

Exactly. Abnormally so with no loss in power.

They can't pump themselves full of EPO anymore (unless you're Russia and your swapping tests through a glory hole) so guys are pushing the limits with banned substances to get as skinny as possible. Asthma meds can promote weight loss.

There isn't any other way to approach this.

Couldn't agree more.

I agree with this but wanted to add that there is some improvement in VO2 max in some studies, but this might be a transfusion issue. Total the salbutamol from fresh blood bag and what ever he ingested that day and that might explain why he was twice the legal limit?
Also, salbutamol has some stimulant effect and would promote weight loss, but that is not what was happening on stage 18. They got the math wrong somehow...

Yeah, ok. A world class athlete who knows he's subject to testing can't follow the prescribed, acceptable dosage on his medicine?
