Harry Pavldis was joking last night on twitter bout how grump and very hawk-esque the round rock announcers are. he wasn't wrong. That play by play guys is basically Hawk if he knew stats.

Because this is my favorite thread of all time, I did this just for fun. Feel free to add to and/or change things.
2016 Opening Day Lineup:
Alcantara CF
Baez 2B
Bryant LF
Soler RF
Rizzo 1B

Obviously a lot can and will change between now and then (like Schwarber even being a catcher in 2016), but man it's fun to think about!

I think that OF is just about set in stone for the future. I just don't know what to make of the glut of infield talent. I would have to say either Castro or Baez would be the odd men out in a situation where someone has to get traded.

I don't know that we trade anyone for pitching because of a need for pitching. We'll just buy it on the market.

i would hope we would have another player or 2 that is playing in the MLB right now in our lineup by 2016. As cool as the prospects are, it almost never pans out that way.

Well, you have to realize that Rizzo and Castro are established veterans right now at age 24. They'll be 26 then. And I suspect a catcher will come via the market if Castillo doesn't improve. That's three established MLB players as well as all the guys in the bullpen and rotation.

anyone know if there are any latino or japaneese players out there that (best guess) would have them available prior to 2016 and not be restricted by international free agency structure?

when does jason heyward hit free agency? Because the FO has gushed about him in the past. I'd fully expect if available they'd do whatever they could to sign him.

There was one this season that was thought of being a defector...BN had an article on him. I can't remember the guy's name, but he appeared to be 23 years old and close to MLB ready.

not that dispange (no doubt that's misspelled) guy who used fake papers to play in mexico and is going to japan? Is that him. Because, and admittedly I don't understand it, I thought the MLB kind of had a gentleman agreement with mexico that if you were banned there you couldn't play here.

They absolutely have to. Although, I'm beginning to think that maybe trading away a cornerstone like Castro is not the best idea unless the Mariners far and away knock the Cubs' socks off.

oh i think trading castro is a bad idea. but he doesn't bother me as much as he does some fans so of all the moves the cubs could make, he's probably the player that won't get the pitchfork crowd out and about.

My initial reaction to trading Castro for pitching was the same, tired meatball "YEAH WEE NEED PITCHINGS" but the more I think about it, unless they're blown out of the water by a deal, I think the rebuild has to enter phase two right now.
Not to mention, you just never know when a young pitcher's arm will explode. Do you really want to set yourself that far back if the worst happens? Not to mention, you have to go through Wagner's growing pains at the MLB level (could be worth it, but could result in TJS and two years of no Wagner).
I don't know...I seem to have talked myself out of the trade Castro camp because I really do think he's a cornerstone here regardless of the minor league SS stockpile.
