He won a Cup with a sv% of .908. Which is good, but not spectacular. His 2008 playoffs were outsatnding, when Fleury went .933. since then, he's a Sv% under .900 each year (891, 894, 834). Which looks like the outlier?

I'm saying the 933. But here's the thing, that 933 came after a regular season of 912. 2009, Fleury posted a 905. Those are his two WORST regular seasons in the past five years. So... this helps your point, how?

Quick's last three postseasons? 913, 946, 952. Now, who do you think the average fan would take? Fleury or Quick? Fleury has the higher Sv% this season, but he's been wretched in the past three postseasons. Quick has a track record of success. You're telling me that doesn't matter? You think Quick is gonna suck up the joint a la Fleury in the postseason? I don't.

So we all agree Quick is the better goalie?

Well duh so would I.

This makes no logical sense. You admit you'd take Quick over Elliott, as would every GM, yet you argue Elliott is better. That's an absurd argument that you don't even agree with.

That completely went over your head.

But who would I take this year? Fleury hands down not even close.

I'll take the goalie with as much postseason success and who had the better season, duh.

I said I'd take Elliott over Quick this year and this postseason, he's had the better year.

Not that hard to understand, well, for you maybe.

No, I get it. You want the goalie you admit is worse.

you're the only one. If you'd take Fleury over Quick, you're an idiot. I'm sorry, but you are. Holtby's been outstanding for the Caps, but I'd take Quick over Holtby in a second. Why? Because Quick is the best goalie in the NHL. The only team in the playoffs that should answer "no" is the Sharks, because Niemi has been beyond awesome this year.

Well, if we ignore the past three years of his career, then yes, he's had more postseason success. But you do realize he's been the reason the Penguins have lost the past three years, right? He's been awful. Fleury has had one great postseason, and he wasn't as good as Quick in his best year. Or second best, for that matter.

Or are we going to say Chris Osgood is the best goalie of the past decade because he played for the Wings? I'm sure you'd take him over Hasek because of the Cups, baby!

Ok, i am starting to get it, you like the Pens to the exclusion of all others...As A Leafs fan i kinda get that, but what that means is that if your team has a shitty year, you have a shitty year...So word of advice (take or leave as always) become a fan of the game...find a team or two that you can follow and just try and hate them a little less...for me it's Chicago and Detroit (Chicago cause of my step Dad and Detroit because of my family in Grosse Point and Royal Oaks)Next i follow the remaining original Six which as you know share a common history with my beloved Leafs, then you widen the net a little more (I am a lifelong fan of the Oshawa Generals) so individual players that my family and I grew close with over the years I tolerate their teams (unless they end up playing for those khunts in Boston and Philla) there is no way i can support that shite...slowly bit by bit you become a fan of the game, not just a team, so that you take a little joy from all that is going on in the game...I say this to you because I hope you take this as friendly advice, I kinda feel like i was like you when I was 17 or 18...plus if you call Detroit a shitty city again it's on...

This is the dumbest thing I have heard you say, and that says a lot.

It wouldn't matter who's in net if you choose not to play defense and try to outscore someone.

It could have been Patrick Roy in his prime and he would have had very little more success than Fleury in that situation.

Huh? "Elliott had the better year."

Are you always this retarded? You ruin these threads, how about this? You never reply to me or about me again in this threads and I'll do the same.

I absolutely hate people that live off of stats and then think they know everything nor have any kind of objective view.

Keep your close minded arse away from me.

Thanks.

Oh I love the Lightning, 2nd favorite team.

Out West I really like the Ducks as my Western team.

I play the NHL video game usually nightly to wind down, team play online, so I'm in contact with fans of other teams for a few hours per night talking hockey. Enjoy it quite a bit.

well this is a start...but try and expand it a bit more remember this is not a debate anyone can win per se more like a I like the Leafs because aside from the Canadiens they have won more Stanley Cups than anybody else in this league, that they have more of a history than just about anybody else, that the builders of Maple Leaf Gardens owned a bit of the Leafs, you get my point...

see you debate whether or not you'd like Sid the Kid or Ovie to be the cornerstone of your franchise (Sid all day long for me) but you may be blinded to some of the more positive aspects of other people's clubs...

That was good natured ribbing, my man. I'm pulling for your Leafs, you know that. I mean, they're playing the Bruins.

I can't expand too much more, I think you should only have a select few teams you "like" and a few others you can stand and that should be it.

I like the Avs, and I can stand the Oilers as well as the Blue Jackets. Hell the last few weeks of the season I felt like a CBJ fan with how badly I wanted them to get into the playoffs. I really don't like any other teams in the East, but I can stand the Sabres and the Isles.

Source: Sidney Crosby out for Game 1 vs. NYI. Unconfirmed, but working on it. #Isles #Pens

Yes, he made one more save per 200 shots. I'm over-awed. But like you said, you;d take Quick over Elliott, as would every NHL GM. Why is that? good looks? Ability to make a tasty omelet?

quote:

Are you always this retarded? You ruin these threads, how about this? You never reply to me or about me again in this threads and I'll do the same.

sorry that you don't like facts. I'm debating your contention that Quick is apparently a liability. I've backed up my points with evidence. You've gotten mad and started yelling real loudly. I honestly don't care what you do. I don't give you much thought, to be honest.

I'd hate evidence. too, if it was so stacked against me. But you did use stats, when you posted Elliot's GAA. So, you can use stats, but others can't? Got it. I don't think stats are the end all be all, but they do provide a good bit of context. And teams outplay their metrics all the time. Look, there's a Stanley Cup replica in Carolina which proves it.

Keep your close minded arse away from me.

Irony, thy name is Hog. People who do not fit your narrow worldview are "closed minded". CanFan and I disagree a lot, but we are both hockey fanatics who get along precisely because we disagree and see the game differently. I think the world is richer for diverse points of view. I like having Don Cherry's alter ego in these threads. It's fun.

Lighten up.

See John Tavares is a family friend, I still remember Bobby Nystrom's afternoon goal to win the Stanley Cup... If you are expanding your teams good for you, but you shouldn't really blame Baloo for bringing stats into his arguments...thats his thing, I on the other hand, am more about a holistic approach which includes momentum shifts, emotion, voodoo etc etc
