So, what do y'all think about the trade rumors having the Cubs send Addison Russell plus something (Montgomery and minor leaguers) to Baltimore for Manny Machado? The lineup this year would be incredible, no doubt; but do you give up 3-4 years of control over Russell and Montgomery for one season of Machado with no guarantee he signs? If Machado agreed to an extension as part of the trade, I do it. Not sure otherwise.

I’m skeptical about that trade.

Machado is incredible but it would suck hard if he left and you just gave up one of the better young SS in the league right after trading Gleyber Torres.

If he agrees to resign before a trade, go for it. I doubt he would though because he would be capping himself out before he hits the open market.

I posted a couple of weeks back that I was at the point where the Cubs should consider other every day options besides Russell. We have a better defensive SS on the roster who also hits better and runs the bases better. The Cubs have been patient with Addi, giving him the SS role after Castro, and he has had some great moments for them, but the kid's never hit over .242 and at this point I'm beginning to think that's what he is about a .230 to .240 hitter with occasional power, but not enough to overcome the pedestrian average when there's a better SS on the same roster.

I think he senses that cause he's stepped it up lately, and I hope that continues cause I like him and want him in Chicago, but it really needs to start now IMHO.
