Catholic High of New Iberia head football coach Brent Indest announced his retirement from the coaching profession Wednesday morning.

Indest, who led the Panthers' football program to the Division II semifinals this past season, informed the media of his decision in a statement via email.

"As of today I am officially retired from the coaching profession. The last 30 years (23 as head coach) have been a truly wonderful, humbling and memorable experience. The relationships I developed with players and coaches will be something that I cherish forever.

"I have been afforded an opportunity with an area based business and although I just turned 53 years old, I still feel that this old dog can learn some new tricks. I look forward to being able to spend fall weekends with family and friends as a spectator and fan of the game.

"I wish to thank all of the individuals that have helped my teams attain many of the lofty goals that we have set over the years. The last seven years at Catholic High School have been very special to me. Working with my wife Tina, having my daughter Jessica as a student trainer and coaching the sons of some of my dear friends and family was incredible.

"Reaching the State Finals 3 times and the semi-finals 3 times is an unprecedented run at CHS one that I am so proud to have been a part of. Winning the State Championship in 2017 at my alma mater was certainly a dream I dreamt of and so blessed that it was achieved.

"Moving forward, I wish everyone at CHS all of God’s blessings. As I have told my players year after year, “everyone is replaceable”, which certainly includes me. The future of CHS football is bright. The middle school group is as talented a crew as I’ve seen since I became the coach at CHS in 2013. I have been blessed with a dedicated, hardworking group of assistant coaches who I hope will stay and aid in the continued success of the program.

"Lastly, thank you to all in the media for your support since my early head coaching days."

Dude was a helluva high school football coach. I played against his teams multiple times and he always got the most out of his players and always had a great scheme.

He was the only one who could consistently beat Coach Cook.

He beat Cook 3 times in all those years. I don’t know if I consider that consistently, but it’s more than most.

Yep hes had a lot of wins against Cook. Usually he’s squeak out a win and then ND blows them out the next matchup

I remember when I was a freshmen at ND and Crowley won 8-7 because of a botched extra point that turned into a 2 pt conversion. School had graffiti all over saying 8-7 ND sucks lol. They ended up facing off in the second round where Norte Dame won by 35-40 or so. Normally he’d take the starters out in that situation but they stated in lol
