Typically gaming developers run these kind of things in beta testing and get feedback. They're likely not going to add that kind of feature (aside from say, just allowing someone to create a female character) without positive feedback.

as i said in my previous post. there are likely dozens of possible new additions, game modes, features, etc they could add to their product that would net them a larger market gain than this.

Maybe, maybe not. You have to think at this point NBA 2K has been around since 1999-ish (I'm guesstimating). NBA Live was around even longer than that. There probably isn't much they haven't already done in games.

They eventually hit a little bit of a wall.

ETA: And with a lot more girls gaming than in the past, it's an easy add to increase your market.

i have played 50+ hours of every edition of 2k since about 2012. And when i tell you, there is plenty of room for improvement i am not gaslighting you to make my point.

we can take this to the Gaming Board and I assure you they will back me up on this notion as well.

for new games. yes, not necessarily rinse and release yearly titles. and even then i would ask who was their audience for this beta? the casual and/or competitive 2k player? i think not.

agreed. and that's awesome. wish my wife was into video games. but what % of new gamers are female? what % of new gamers who play basketball games are female? the answer, again is a small small decimal point. not enough to move the needle financially for a company like 2k.

I haven't played in a bit but I'll take your word for it. I just wonder how much more can feasibly be done that hasn't already been done by a competing franchise or is big enough to really bring in more (if that makes sense).

I've done multiple betas for AC games through Ubisoft emails. And Rockstar with RDR. But it usually comes through email request where I've signed up for updates for that. So I'd assume it's probably someone with some interest. Unless you just happen to catch a Beta in the XBOX store or something along those lines.

Working with high schoolers, I see a lot more younger girls gaming than before but that's anecdotal. Per Forbes, 41% of gamers in the US are women (as of 2020) and 48% in Asia are women.

Wow. Those #’s are astounding. I’d of never suspected it as that high, but again i think you’re casting a broad net suggesting those %’s apply to the market for female gamers into sports video games just based on the popularity of the WNBA alone.

But, I think it's a big enough market that I can feasibly see a developer adding the WNBA component to cast a net and see how many they can add to their base.

yeah maybe you're right with those figures you posted, there's potential for an increase in market. they have to at least try to expand their market right?

although, i still can't help but believe their true motivation behind this is simply a virtue signaling PR move

I'll meet you halfway and argue that women's basketball is also significantly more popular professionally outside of the US. So it's likely not just taking into account US numbers.
