WAR, lol

We all knew his deal would be asinine, as well as the padre ss, but at that age, you get his prime years, it was going to be done.

He'll do fine in that ball park, it's a band box. He should average over 35hr a season in Philly.

He's ranked 37th and 35th in Runs Created on B-R and Fangraphs. But the two sites differ on his defensive ability, or lack thereof. Especially last year, when Fangraphs credited him with twice the WAR B-R did (3.5 to 1.3).

He is not that good. His numbers with the Nationals in his last couple of years were nothing special at all

I feel like people also forget that baseball is a business.

What's having Harper in a Phillies jersey for the rest of his career worth to the organization off the field?

What's it worth in jersey sales, ticket sales, TV ratings, etc.?

Yeah, he's going to make the Phillies better, but that's not the entire story.

He has a .968 OPS. Philly would gladly take that for a decade.

I don't trust the defensive metrics bringing down his WAR so much.

2017 he had 9 total homers in May/June and hit .256 in May

2015 was the best year of his career, and he has never been close to replicating it. That was a damn good year though. I'll admit I said never, but it happened one time

Last year’s NL MVP had 15 homers at the end of July and hit 250 in June. It’s a long season and there’s more to tell the story than snapshots in time over a cherry picked period with a few cherry picked stats. Harper was 5th in OPS and 7th in wRC+ in 17 for guys with 450+ PA. He had a great 2017 sans injury.

You couldn't post this yesterday bc they were in first place. A loss to the Mets last night has them tied for second, 0.5 games out of first. They weren't projected to win the division this season, they'll be ok.

Uh the media were saying that Harper was single handedly going to lead the Phils to the World Series

They were projected for a mid-80s win total. Will he lead them to a WS? Possibly. Just not this season.

Media driven, over hyped machine that made him really rich. Good for him.
