I do think you're right that they try and create matchups a little too much. there's too many cute matchups for it not to be intentional. That said, I don't think they monkey with seeds or anything beyond the one seed line move they admit to.

drake western last year being a blatant case

They outright fricked the midmajors last year by matching them all against each other in the first round. They finally give some midmajors some decent sees, only to match them with the midmajor lower seeds.
Geez, the whole fun of the tourney is the big schools playing the little schools.

Lunardi has LSU as one of the last 4 out ,but that was on Monday (pre TN)

meh
but i do agree it was a shitty seeding job last year, and recently at that. the tennessee debacle that was already mentioned
and my biggest beef in a while, seeing kansas one and leaving ucla as the 2 in anaheim. total bullshite

Here's a good question. If Arkansas goes 8-8 in SEC, do they get into the big dance, because of those wins over Tex and OU?
Posted on 1/30/09 at 9:58 pm to PiscesTiger
anyone disagree about the left outs and ins?
Posted on 1/31/09 at 10:03 am to PiscesTiger
No, but I do think Kansas needs to be lower than a 4 seed.
Quality wins: Washington, Tennessee
Quality Losses: UMASS, Arizona
I don't know. Something about them being a 4 seed just doesn't seem right. They are not playing like a 4 seed. 6-10 would be better.. just my opinion.

They'll knock off a few more Big XII teams. Right now, they are 6-7, but they're playing better. I think they'll be no lower than a 5 when it's said and done.

That would be a scary second round matchup for Duke with Baylor. Two close to similar teams, but I almost think Baylor has a little more firepower than Duke does except Duke has the defense

Slipping:
Notre Dame remains on my OUT list...son the rest of you shall see the light.
Kentucky... Uh-oh, Kige. Loss at home to SC. Hello 7-8 seed. UK is back to the MILDcats once again.
Wake Forest...OK, maybe not in thie category yet, but they lost to a BAD GT team today. Duke hangover. The 1 seed isn't liking them so much.
Houston...I need to take them out. They're NOT worthy. They must win their conf tourney and they won't.
Georgetown...WOW are the HOyas playing on dangerous ground. They're down to 9-10 seed area and the elevator is quickly going down. They need a quality win FAST or they're going to play Notre Dame in the NIT Final 4.
Arizona State...cannot lose twice in a row on your home floor. Gotta defend homecourt. They cannot afford another loss in Tempe.
Providence...From rise to fall in a matter of 24 hours. You cannot lose by 30 plus and get respect. They must redeem that. But U Conn is bad to the bone and could likely beat a few other tourney-bound teams by 30.
Baylor...Not a good loss today to a North opponent, Mizzou. The Bears are 3-4 in Big XII Play and still have a lot of tough games left.
Rising:
South Carolina...I shall take credit for having them in the field over a week ago. Well, the Cocks, who so many of us disrespected, are stronger than we think. Great guard play is a necessity and they have it. Quality wins vs UK and UF have them in the right spot.
Marquette...Quiet, quiet ballclub that could ultimately win the Big East Tourney and be a 1 seed. Right now UL and UConn are in their way, but one of them falls on Monday, and it is looking like Marquette and the winner of that game are in the catbird. Long way to go and Pitt is still there, too.
Washington...The reason that ASU is slippin, but all of a sudden they're in first place with UCLA. No one was talking about the Huskies. 7-2 in the PAC 10.
Gonzaga...A big win vs. Saint Mary's this past week and now another good win over San Diego has the Zags looking good. Undefeated in conference play and looking good enough to be 3-4 seed material.
Over the next 72 hours:
*Winner of VT/BC game is going to be in great shape. If VT wins, they could seriously challenge for the ACC title.
* UT must beat Florida or they will be on that bubble that Georgetown and ND are currently riding. Not defending home court will have you in the NIT. Tyler Smith, where are you?
* Penn State can be a household name with an upset over MSU tomorrow on the road. If they don't, no need to panic, but if they win - hard to leave them out. Right now, they're fighting Michigan and Ohio State for that 5th spot from the Big Ten.
* Loser of Cincy/Nova tomorrow will be in trouble - moreso for the Bearcats, but Nova can't beat Pitt and think it's okay to lose to Cincy.
* Monday is so far the game of year with UConn and Louisville. Freedom Hall is about as tough a place to win as Al-Queda Arena. If U Conn pulls off the road win, the Huskies will be deemed the best team in the country by everyone.
* Now is the time for UNC to get back into the "best team" talk. They must do to Maryland what Duke did to the Terps last week...or close to it anyway. UNC is being shoved out of the spotlight. What I think is the most talented basketball team in the country needs to prove that. BC and Miami have already slipped up on them and if the Terps do, then UNC may never get a shot for the 1 seed again.
* Georgetown must beat Rutgers at home on Tuesday, or they will be 3-7 in Big East play and officially OUT of my bracketology. Ya can't lose to teams like UR when you're already in hot water.
* Loser of Tuesday's meeting between Purdue and Ohio State falls on major bubble - esp the Buckeyes b/c this is their court and they are already on the bubble. Purdue must win to keep pace with Michigan State, Minnesota, and Illinois and avoid pressure from the Buckeyes and Penn State and even Michigan in a down year for their conference.
* After Marquette demolishes Depaul, the Golden Eagles will be/should be in the top 6 and they will be making their February run to make a stab at that one seed status. Another weak opponent in USF comes up next for them, so top 4-5 should be reached within a week. Then, the fighting Al McGuires will see what they're made of when they visit the Nova.
* SC must get over the UK win and get ready to play Florida (already?) on the road. A win in Gainesville would almost guarantee the Cocks a spot in the Dance, provided they win their home games throughout the remainder of the season. Whoever wins the SEC east - 4 teams fighting for it - should get much respect by the commmittee on Selection Sunday.

I agree...Baylor is a mad matchup for Duke. Baylor, though, ain't gonna be in the Dance if they keep this up.

Right now, the number ones must be:
Oklahoma
Duke
U Conn
Louisville
U Conn/L'ville loser will then open it up for UNC.
