is that what they're called now?
I thought everyone called them "at-large" bids

It's to show that UCLA and BYU aren't auto-bids since they appear in caps.

Pretty generous, IMO,
You said it yourself, the committee has pulled this stunt before, and they'll do it again. They are trying to keep travel down for as many teams as possible, even if it means putting the top seed in a perceived disadvantage.
You could honestly move around any of the 9 seeds in my projection and still make sense, but the committee is anti-travel...unless you are one of the poor saps that gets shipped west. LSU could be one of those teams if they don't get up to a 4 seed. And even still, that's not a guarantee. The pod system is a POS, FWIW.

Guess who's the last team in (my bracket), Buckeye?

+1
And let me say this about Georgetown.
They are not in right now. Wins over St. John's and DePaul will not get them in. NOBODY should be projecting G'Town anywhere NEAR the tournament yet. That is all.
BTW, Arizona is slipping hard. Now 8-8 in the conference with a loss at UW. Ohio State will be in the double-digit seeds when I update tomorrow. Losing to Purdue was one thing, but they got waxed.
Butler clinched the Horizon, Morgan State clinched the MEAC, and Jacksonville is playing Belmont right now for the A-Sun top seeds. Oh, VCU also clinched the top seed in the CAA.
Binghamton clinched the top seed in the America East due to the tiebreaker over Vermont a day or two ago.

I dropped them down one, but am thinking of putting them back at 4 as we speak.

Man..I don't know how I am supposed to push Illinois, Nova, Marquette, and Clemson out the way, though.
I think I've locked myself out of my own brackets!

Refs were horrendous, FWIW. I'm not usually the guy that blames the refs, but they were awful. Wouldn't have made a diff in the final outcome, but we wouldn't have gotten waxed. It's not like we were blown out from the start, either. We were down by 2 at one point in the second half.
Anyway, I said before Penn St that I expected us to go 3-1 the rest of the way (beat PSU, Iowa and NW, lose to Purdue), and if we did that, we'd be in. So just win the next two (which are both very winnable games), and we should be fine, IMO.

Fine to get in, yes. A good seed? Not so much. Although, you're getting a tough game no matter who you are in at 7/10 or 8/9 game.

I agree.

I had a tough time with that myself. I had 3 ACC teams on the 3 line, so it made for interesting swapping out. Had to move a team down a line to fix everything.
Nice to see I had a good influence on your brackets, btw.
ETA: Jacksonville beats Belmont 71-69 to win the A-Sun. ETSU gets the tiebreaker over Belmont for the 2 seed. Belmont will be 3. A-Sun tourney starts Wednesday.

They just beat Villinova today. Does this get them in?
Posted on 2/28/09 at 6:45 pm to lsubeagle
Probably not. They are still 6-10 in the conference, and their last two games at @St. John's (5-11 Big East) and vs. DePaul (0-16 Big East). They will have to win both and pull a shocker (or two) in the Big East tourney. If they get in with anything less, it's a disgrace to the tournament selection committee.

Just to let you know, you should probly put Clemson lower. I know to this point they probably deserve that seed. But if you are also predicting how you think they will finish the season (which I think you told me you were), they should be lower.
Every fricking year Clemson sucks shite, yet takes advantage of the easiest nonconference schedule you have ever seen to get themselves into the top 10. Then, they are exposed in the ACC, but there isn't enough time for them to drop back down to where they actually belong.
So, you should probably expect them to lose any game that could go either way from here on out, and probably even go one and done in the ACC Tournament.

do the cards move into consideration for a 1 seed with a win over marquette tomorrow?
Posted on 2/28/09 at 7:01 pm to Ron Mexico
Probably not because the committee will most likely take into account the fact that James is out.

Consideration? Depends. The top 4 seeds are pretty set, and beating Marquette now without Dominic James will likely lose a bit value.
It's possible, if Oklahoma or Pitt slips again, but Memphis, I think, would get a 1 seed before Louisville at this point, painful as it may be.
