Talk about random stat that you never would have guessed.

A much more deserving HOF candidate than Trevor Hoffman IMO but he'll fall short while Hoffman will get in.

Not really that surprising. He's been pretty much as good as Hoffman and Rivera during the same time period. He's stayed healthy for the most part. He's played on good teams. He's remained amazingly consistent; his career ERA is 2.37. One of the all-time greats.

Wagner should've had more 40 save seasons..maybe picked a cool tune like 'Hell's Bells'?

This, he's been a good closer for a long time, its not that surprising. And the top ten are all fairly recent guys, I mean Troy Percival's 8, Randy Myers is 9th.

I can't think of a more worthless stat, especially the way they play to. its a joke.

hold on a second there chief. I think he's been > than Hoffman, but Riveria is the GOAT of relief pitchers.

I agree, my whole post was sarcasm. It's a plateau heard far too much, when save percentage and not walking guys, is where greatness truly lies.

30/30 and 40/40 died post-steroid era, so too should 40 save hype, the far too leisurely used 5-tool phrase, etc..

Rivera..is the George Herman Bonds..the Barry Lamar Ruth..of all Closers.

Outside of a clutch hit/blip vs Az 2001 and Boston 2004, he's been nearly untouchable.

And now is starting to impress for being able to do such as an old man.

saves are extremely overrated. Save total should have no bearing on your HOF worthiness. Wagner was a dominant reliever. Period. That is all that matters

well they are? How is getting 3 outs in the 9th inning more important than getting 3 outs in the 6th with the bases loaded and up by 1?

the guy in the 6th may have actually "saved" the game.

Wagner is a HOFer, no doubt. But saves are pretty stupid

Why are you rolling your eyes at the truth. The Save is the most over rated stat in baseball, especially the way they play to it. disagree, refute with something other than emoticons.

While I tend to agree with that statement, we can have an EPIC thread discussing the most over rated stats in baseball and other sports...

when billy wagner was a kid (not sure what age but he had definitely already been playing baseball and stuff) he broke his right arm twice and was forced to learn to throw left handed.... of course he ended up being able to throw 100 mph
thats frickin awesome
