I fail to see "I tested positive for steroids" in his talk with the media. It could have been anything, and it's not like he's aging terribly, or breaking down in his old age.
At 32 and 33 he looked basically finished then he had a bounce back season at 34 before having 3 straight great seasons ...

What's the big deal?
It was ball 4 and he took his walk?
If you don't want him to take a walk, throw strikes.

From .332/.445/.621
To
.264/.369/.507
To
.238/.322/.462
That isn't "slight" that's a major drop across the board. At one point he was hitting so bad the Boston media and national media was wondering if he would continue to start. Hell during the start of his "bounce back" season when it was so bad Boston was removing their DH for a pinch hitter

I don't consider an .876 OPS as "basically finished."
He had one down year where he struck out slightly more, walked slightly less and his ISO was slightly worse than previous years.
Which all resulted in one slight down year of 28 HR, 99 RBI and an OPS of .794

Meh I don't like Ortiz but I don't see the issue here.

He came off an incredibly poor season (albit with power) in which he hit .264/.332 OBP and through May of the following year he was hitting under .200 with under a .320 OBP before he got hot. He finished with a great season of .270/.370/.529 then he exploded and he has hit better over last 3 seasons than previous 3 seasons. So his late 30's have been better than mid?

I'll admit I'm biased, but they've managed to find proof against Roger, Alex, and Bonds. I don't see anywhere near the same stuff against Papi. He's turned off enough people at this point in his career that there should be some noise happening from other players/ex trainers.
Clemens, bonds, and AROD have been in baseball's public eye before they were even in the MLB. They all enjoyed success before taking roids and were MLB all stars. Their arrogance and greed essentially did them in.
Ortiz was a castoff gap hitter for the twins before going to Boston where Papi, ManRam and Jeremy Giambi took turns sticking each other with juice. All of a sudden Ortiz is +OPSing 165 and hitting 50 bombs

Let's not pretend a already decent hitting, 6'4" 220 lb man who sees a 30 HR jump isn't suspicious. It's the classic case of roiders. Pretty good players become monsters

quote:Well, that's arguable, but it isn't like he did anything special, like hit a 500' bomb. He took a pitch. Congratulations, fatass.
