UCF fans are thinking they're joining a "big" conference haha
It's pretty remarkable where they are all things considered. They've left USF (who was once in a power conference and got to #2 in the BCS) in the dust.

Nebraska made out better than anyone. They wound up in a top tier conference they have NO business being in
It’s not about recent in the field results. It’s about how many people watch you on TV.
Look at Aggies. They don’t win anything on the field but they have tons of fans so they are desirable to conferences.

And, I'm probably the 15,000th person to say this, but it's gonna be a great conference for the secondary sports. Basketball will be really good, and baseball will be ok.
Exactly, it’s already good in both. Losing Texas will hurt both those sports, but Houston has a hoops program that could have staying power once Sampson is done. UCF is so huge, it’s a sleeping giant in baseball and basketball IMO.

Is it that big a difference between the new Big 12 and the AAC?

The Big 12 is preparing to play the upcoming season with 14 teams before Texas and Oklahoma depart for the SEC in 2024. Yormark said Thursday he would ideally like to keep the conference at 14 teams but would be OK with 12.
The Big12 should either stay at 12 or expand to 16. 14 team conferences are weird. You don’t get enough cross division play even with a 9 game conference schedule to build conference cohesion, rivalries, etc. Since the Big12 is the best that any of the teams can do as far as conference movements go they should really focus on building conference cohesion, rivalries, etc. However if they do expand to 14 teams or 16 teams (post UT-OU exit) for goodness sake please change the conference name.

UCF’s decision to build a new on campus stadium and invest in facilities including an indoor practice facility and everything else that they did and USF didn’t do has paid off for them. I highly doubt that they would be in the Big 12 if they were still playing in the citrus bowl.

Gonzaga is joining the Big 12 either next year or in 2025.

IN USF's defense, they focused a lot on academics and are now an AAU member so that did pay off. But they also blocked UCF from joining the old Big East.
