Not best but I'd say he's good.

larussa

He reinvented the bullpen...not necessarily the best manager ever for coming up with a new idea.

leyland

Meh.

Torre probably. I can't think of anyone that is CURRENTLY doing a real standout job.

Scioscia is one of the better managers in the game. I wonder what his stats would look like if GM was willing to trade some prospects for actual players back in day.

I think he has been held back a little over years as management has kept some prospects at expense of the "win now" mentality.

People in here are talking about him being the best and I hear it quite a bit on the radio. 10 years with 5 postseasons and 4 postseason series victories? And he's better than Torre? That's crazy talk.

Torre is a manager who learned from his mistakes the first time as coach. Same with Terry Francona in Boston, they each learned and adapted their philosophy.

Honestly why does this even matter? MLB managers are overrated as hell anyway

I dunno if you can really peg a top 3. There are about 5 or 6 guys you could make an argument for without much dispute and I don't think there is a big enough gap in between guys to define a top 3.

How did the Rockies completely turn their season around? If there's one person to give credit to, it's Jim Tracy.

LaRussa? You mean the guy who squandered all of that talent in Oakland? The most overrated coach in any sport not named Lenny Wilkens

So you rate him based on how he managed 20 years ago ONLY?

And how exactly does the most overrated coach in MLB win a WS and get to another without having a top 5 talented team???

I know you're knowledgeable on baseball and all that, but this is baffling, IMO.

so because he was a bad babysitter makes him a not so good manager?

In baseball and basketball, I'd say managing egos is EASILY more important than the Xs and Os aspect of the game.

I think Scoscia and Gardenhire are two of the best.

What is Tony LaRussa known for when it comes to pitching again?
