It doesn't hurt that she plays pro bball in russia already. Most of the best Americans do.

well yeah, except for Seimone Augustus, Sue Bird, Tamika Catchings, Sylvia Fowles, Kara Lawson, Lisa Leslie, DeLisha Milton-Jones, Candace Parker, Cappie Pondexter, Katie Smith, Diana Taurasi, and Tina Thompson.

but you're right, most of the best americans play in russia.

I dont know about the rest of your list, but Seimone Augustus plays for the Moscow Dynamo in the offseason of the WNBA.

EDIT: Sue Bird and Taurasi play for Spartak in Moscow as well. I think you get the drift.

moral of the story: if you're not good enough to play for your country, then sell yourself to the highest bidder.

These are games not war. I would play Italy in a heartbeat if unable to play for the U.S. I would go just to pick up some hot stray in the Olympic village.

Actually one of Italy's best soccer players on the Olympic team was born in New Jersey, he could have chosen to play for the U.S. but decided to play for Italy. Can't blame him as the U.S. will never have a realistic chance to win the world cup.

Ginobili is not a good analogy as he was born in Argentina and is a citizen of that country.

if china (or whoever) wants to win the medal race, they should just bribe the best athletes in each sport to play for them. it's the same idea. the olympics is a joke because of this crap.

Agreed. Nor were they ever supposed to be. Something we (and I mean just about everyone...the Chinese included) have forgotten.
