Pro,college, high school I guess it doesn't really matter they just aren't very good and the money they make is very good. I know pro and college make really good money and get to travel and see alot. Don't let high school officials fool you they can earn up to $175 on a three game night and then they can call every night but Sunday. Not a lot of knowledgeable officials and then the professionalism is at the bottom of the line also. People just don't take pride in their work no matter what the field is.

He's not really lying. Jv and varsity gets a ref in nola 125. If there is a ninth grade game. Add on to that. There aren't that many games is the problem. But being a ref does pay when you add it all up.

Half the problem is why would you want to be a ref when everyone in the stands knows more than you.

How many here have actually called basketball games? It's not quite as easy as it looks. It's easy to sit on your couch, watching the team you route for, and think every foul that gets called on you wasn't a foul, and every foul that wasn't called for you was a foul.

No sports officials at any level at any sport are very good. I'd be bad at my job too if I was able to just do what I want with no consequences.

It definitely seems to be one of the most difficult games to call.
I thought about doing baseball/softball on the side just to do something for extra$$. Seems more cut and dry.

Baseball seems like it would be somewhat fun. Basketball is by far the hardest sport to officiate.

Now deduct all the expenses (registrations, uniforms, used PTO, gas, insurance, camps, etc.) and figure out the hours put in with film study, meetings, rules study, travel, etc. and figure out what the pay per hour is.
