Baseball Dads: Do Your Research On Summer Organizations
Posted on 6/15/26 at 12:38 pm

Posting on here because I noticed there was a “high school baseball” thread during the season. Some of you may be dads of kids currently on a high school team.
There is a couple of high quality arms in the BR/LC area that are scheduled to throw multiple innings at a prep baseball showcase in the next few days.
Both of these pitchers started and threw multiple innings and over 60+ pitches on Saturday for their summer organization (which is a very highly thought of summer organization that many send their kids to)
I guess chalk it up to bad communication by both the summer organization and the prep showcase? Or what am I kidding… why communicate?? They got their money already!!
Get the Tommy John Doctors ready.

I am guessing we should know what area you are talking about?

I think you may be overreacting a bit
At a showcase, you only throw like 20-25 pitches. If they pitched 60-70 pitches on Saturday, then they have two full days' rest before the showcase. In Louisiana, you can pitch a full 115 three days after a 60-85 pitch day.

Overreacting? Both kids I would assume were workhorses for their school teams from February- May and threw a ton of innings. No way in hell is it ok for a guy to come back in 2 days from 60+ pitches, especially in the offseason to then throw multiple innings again. Ideally 20-25 could be done in 2 innings but it can also be done very easily in 1 so now your talking another 40+

Today makes 2 days from Saturday. You said they will throw again in the next few days. I will need to see exactly how much time in between games it actually is before I get my panties in a wad like you are. Sorry that your son has to face one or both.

My son is a HS pitcher. We just text the coach “have a PBR showcase on Tuesday”. Coaches pitches him in pool play instead of bracket.
3 days rest would be better but 2 is fine. In summer ball we only throw 60-70 pitches whereas the spring season is often over 100.

Our organization worked with several kids, including Paul Maholm, that went to the big leagues. You just have to look at the coaching resumes. Most top organizations are going to have guys that pitched in college or some level of pro ball. But a lot of the top kids are getting private instruction from high level people all year. They'll know who the best coaches are in an area.

So not only are the kids soft these days the parents are too.

This 100%. This is not the teams fault. This is the kids fault for not telling the summer league coach. No doubt for the high quality arms this is a delicate balance but the KID not the parents and coaches have the responsibility to communicate it.
For those that think this is silly. There are the kids with D1 offers from several schools. Summer ball and camps are where this all happens for these kids. It’s a grind for these young kids.
