ETA: When Walker played, they did not count bowl stats, so those are not included in his career numbers. Sanders had 5 TDs and I think 300 yds in his bowl.

I don't think they're counted in Sanders' numbers either, that's why he doesn't have the season rushing mark anymore

the NCAA doesnt count his bowl game in that total.

I thought they did count the bowl game at that point?

Have a link for game stats for that year?

Absolutely amazing season, I still say the most deserving Heisman ever. Really a crime that it wasn't unanimous or at the very least, the biggest win ever.

As someone who grew up in the Barry Sanders-era, how does one say that Jim Brown is the greatest ever? I've heard it said that he was the greatest football player ever, but my question is what is this based off of? Obviously since I didn't see him, I can't really make the statement either way.

To me, looking at stats alone, Barry was much better than Brown... and its not even close.

that's what Sppedy said, I thought they did at that point.

Who ran for more yds in a season since then?

Wouldn't all running backs be as good if they had a real MAN at quarterback as well?

no offense but if you think that just looking at the stats, you aren't reading the numbers correctly. You can't compare raw numbers, you need to look at the avgs.

all of Sanders career they played 16 games, they only played 12 for Brown's first 4 years, then 14.

Brown avg 104.3 yds/game, Sanders 99.8. Brown scored 126 TDs in 118 games, Sanders 109 in 151. No way can argue that its not close looking at the numbers. Brown avg 5.2/carry, Sanders 5.0, 2 of the all time greats for sure.

That white kid, Danny Woodhead, in D2

Technically some dude named Nate Kmic from Mount Union has the all time record. He's in D3

Barry Sanders still holds the D1 record. For some reason I thought Kevin Smith had beaten it a few years back

okay yeah i just realized the whole length of season thing.

i guess the way you presented it, it certainly makes a strong case for Jim. Still closer than I thought.

That is just Barry Sanders whipping his dick out on the entire Big 8

His worst game of the season was when he went for 154 against Missouri with ONLY 2 TDs and his team still won by 28

Still averaged 6.16 ypc that game

Dude averaged 7.64 ypc for the season

I think Sanders and Brown are the only ones with that many games to avg 5/att.

Avgs give you a more accurate picture.

I also wonder the same for Eric Dickerson. That guy just exploded into the NFL.
