TITLES. The Big Ten has none to show for all of this. I happen to believe that the Big Ten is the strongest overall basketball conference but with a title or two to back it up it's just regular season trash talk.
Point well taken, but the B1G has had 6 teams from its conference make the title game since 2000, so its not like the conference isnt getting there. I agree that a title would solidify that argument, but to say its just "trashtalk" is ridiculous. The B1G has more depth at coaching and exciting venues then any other conference and it isnt even close. We just havent had the best team.
Title games since 2000:
Michigan State 2000*
Indiana 2002
Illinois 2005
Ohio State 2007
Michigan State 2009
Michigan 2013

Once again, the past few nights, the B1G has showed how deep the conference is. Ohio St losing 3 in a row to really good teams in Michigan St, Iowa, Minnesota (Richard Petino is a great young coach) and the bottom of the conference getting some big wins as well (Northwestern over Indiana). The real surprise is the surge of Michigan. They have finally rebounded since losing McGary and are turning into a great team....ugh! Michigan St will be a #1 seed in the NCAA tourney. They are good. It amazes me that whenever im watching a B1G game, how intense the atmosphere is. Every game has a NCAA feel to it.

Current Standings:
Michigan St - 17-1 (6-0)
Michigan - 13-4 (5-0)
Iowa - 14-3 (3-1)
Wisconsin - 16-2 (3-2)
Minnesota - 14-4 (3-2)
Purdue - 13-5 (3-2)
Ohio St - 15-3 (2-3)
Indiana - 12-6 (2-3)
Illinois - 13-6 (2-4)
I think all of these teams will get into the NCAA tourney. I still think Iowa is my darkhorse and Minnesota is a lot better then I thought as well. Going to be a meat grinder of a conference again.

Nik Satuskas - B1G POTY
Posted on 1/19/14 at 12:08 pm to TreyAnastasio
If Nik Stuaskas and Keith Appling keep playing the way they are it will be a tight race for the BIG POTY. If MSU wins the BIG I would give it to Appling. If not, Stauskas deserves it.

Wouldn't Gary Harris win it if state wins the conference?
Posted on 1/19/14 at 2:13 pm to TreyAnastasio
It's debatable
Appling has played more consistent quality basketball and made clutch shots. Harris is starting to get his form back, but he has had some very sub-par games.

Another huge win for Michigan, and another huge night for Nik

Lawl at Wisconsin. What the frick happened to OSU and the badgers? MSU is the only elite team in the league, but holy shite Beilein deserves COTY. Losing McGary, Burke, AND Hardaway, and starting off better in the big ten than last year? Fizzo can't come close to that .

This is the entire reason i started this thread. You can "lawl" at Ohio St and Wisconsin all you want, but this proves my point, the B1G is loaded. Its a war of attrition in this conference. Every night you better bring it or you are going to lose. We may not have as many "stars", but we have better "teams". You have to protect home court if you are going to be in contention. I really like what Iowa and Minnesota have shown me. Richard Pitino has been a GREAT hire for Minny (Tubby who?). I like what Chris Collins is doing at NW too. Great league of coaches...#1 without question! How i would rank the B1G right now.
Michigan St
Michigan
Iowa
Minnesota
Wisconsin
Ohio St
Purdue
Indiana
Illinois
Northwestern
Nebraska
Penn St

Wolverines looking to make it 5 of the last 7 this weekend

I am shocked at how they have rebounded. Stauskas can freakin play...and he isnt just a shooter. He has some next level ability. Again, just because your typical Ohio St's and Wisky's have struggled lately doesn't mean the conference is weaker, in fact, i think it means the conference is stronger. I'll say it again, Iowa and Minnesota are dam good basketball teams. This year the middle of the pack teams right now just happen to be Ohio St, Wisky and Purdue. Going to be a fun race!

Unfortunately if he keeps this up he will almost certainly be going pro after this season.

Richard Pitino at Minny has done a nice job....used to be a Florida assistant too

Another thing that i cant stand is watching Columbus, OH kids producing big time for Meeechigan. First Trey Burke and now Caris LaVert. Id take both of them over any of our current players.

I meant 5 of 7 against msu. They've won 8 straight since losing to Arizona.
And if OSU wants kids like Burke and levert they're going to have to change their recruiting strategy.

I disagree, its not a strategy thing really. We simply chose Shannon Scott over Trey Burke...bad decision. We chose Amadeo Della Valle over Caris LaVert...MAJOR mistake. Its not like we were taking no brainers over these guys. We just missed, plain and simple and now we are

Sometimes it feels like OSU uses rivals as their scouting service.
4 star vs 3 star
Michigan only added Lavert after Della Valle chose OSU. I think he has shocked everyone.
