We got our asses kicked by a better team this weekend. Not to mention the shitty umps and a string of inexplicably lucky hits for the Mets, who, to their credit, have been getting those hits all year long.

The fact remains that we are still one of the best teams in the league, and there’s a lot of season left.

A helping of humble pie never killed anyone.

Hopefully we take it out on the Red Sox and the Marlins this week.

Ehh

ETA: Before Game 2 on Saturday, I said to set the O/U at 30.5 strikeouts for the next two games. The Braves had 31. That is fricking pathetic. The strikeout parade is a problem against the Mets.

There are only a couple of teams who can do that though. They just happen to be our likely playoff opponents

It almost seems impossible to strikeout as much as this team does.

I’m sure this will be a tough week as far as morale is concerned for Anderson with the looming demotion after his next start. You’d almost be better pulling someone up from AAA to spot start rather than allowing Ian to go one more.

Only teams in baseball with a worse K% are the Angels and Pirates. I do think that improves, but we just have guys with that as part of their identity.

Riley for example strikes out 25% and is still hovering around .300. Dansby is doing the same thing.

Austin Riley since signing his extension last Monday:

6 Hits, 1 RBI, 0 HR, 2 walks.

Yeah, that decision doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. If the goal is to allow him a chance to regroup then you have to keep down down for a continuous stretch of games IMO.

Although I guess, at the same time, we are still in a situation where every game is must win (or at the least you have to have a must win mentality). You can't really bring up Muller for a spot start in that environment given he is coming off of injury and struggled in his first start back.

I am trying to focus on holding on to a wild card spot as a positive. Not wasting any negative energy on over taking the Mets for the division title.

I think we have been regressing on offense with the loss of Albies and Duval even though they were not having stellar seasons, it might help if Albies comes back

Yeah I don't understand the urgency to sign Riley to this contract. We are now paying 2 guys too much money to produce like they did against the Mets this weekend.

If he had hit the open market, he'd have gotten a $30M AAV contract at minimum. That's why.

He will be fine, hes turned into a great player. The contract may be some added pressure in the short term though.

Though if we were actually worried about him, that is one of the potential pitfalls of signing guys so early.

He needs to turn it up a notch to be in that class.

They got knocked on their arse. Let's see how they respond. IMO this is where you miss someone like Joc Pederson who, from all accounts, would get that team going with pearls of wisdom like this: "we also just might be those motherfrickers." They need someone. Maybe Snit will call another team meeting, who knows, but someone needs to kick them in the arse and get them moving. There are holes all over this team right now with hitting, pitching and the pen.

On a positive note Michael Harris is a damn nice addition to this team. As a rookie he is navigating the majors better than most any I have seen previously. I am thankful they called him up.

Dawg...

It's a 10 year deal and you're already upset over his production in first series since he signed it?
