I'm not surprised in the slightest that you think you're the one who "got me" in this back and forth.

I just think it's funny that I get you worked up so much.

I'm out for the night. Time for family time w/the wife and 7yr.old angel.

Yep... I'm the one that's worked up. You got it figured out.

I talked to them yesterday, they hate you more than the posters on this board hate you.

Considering we've been together for 22 years and married going on 19 she must not hate me that much.

Nah, just texted them again. They hate you even more now because you said you were leaving the board for family time and then came back 5 minutes later.

Ehh, this sounds a lot like football fans who try and justify overpaying a QB.

Except in football you either overpay them or have to draft one. Whats the hit rate on even number 1 overall pick QBs?

I'll give you a hint: not good.

As for Dansby, don't brag about the battery making us a big payroll contender and then come out and say Dansby would've taken a discount.

I'm of the opinion that a GM should almost never say anything with regards to financials. We just don't want to hear it, TBH. Fans dont give AF if some multi-billion dollar corporation has financial flexibility or not

You are correct. We will have to keep up payroll wise if we want to continue to win the Division year in and year out.

Having said that, we aren't the Yankees/ Mets/ Red Sox with limitless payroll.

Let's look at it this way - if Freddie were on this roster at $25-$27 mill and Dansby was too at $20+ mill.... let's say the 2 combined for $50 mill per year in salary.

Besides Matt Olson, what other 2 or 3 higher paid players would NOT be on our roster right now, if we were paying those 2 $50 mill???

Would we have to move anyone or not be in position to retain players?

Keep in mind, we have 2 starting pitchers that will command big money soon. We would have zero chance at retaining either one.

I completely understand the part about missing leadership. It's a real thing.

But in looking at our roster, we should be ok.

I think AA has done a damn good job of building a strong roster 1 through 26. We have strong starting pitching and bullpen depth. We have a strong lineup that won't depend on 2 or 3 having terrific seasons.

We are pretty balanced and will be able to win games in a variety of ways.

Iglesias has shoulder inflammation, won't throw for at least a week and will start the season on the IL.
