I disagree here. I think adding veterans to a team like the Astros is overrated. As a Mariners fan, our team was where the Astros are 4 years ago and all the veterans they brought in didn't do shite except block the younger guys who needed AB's and innings. This was the first year I felt like the Mariners made progress with their team and that's because they decided to sink or swim with their prospects.

Most of the 'good clubhouse guys' turn into moody, old vets once they end up on a 100 loss team anyway.

I'm talking maybe 2-3 guys and 1-2 of those being bench guys. You have to chose the right ones. Guys who are made to mentor younger players and don't mind playing that role. Just because the Mariners didn't execute the strategy doesn't mean it doesn't work. The mariners had way bigger problems besides that.
