Like baseball where the average game lasts 2 hours 45 minutes and a no hitter is a big deal?
Commercials have a lot to do with that.
100 years ago you saw games wrap up in under 2 hours.

You were that one fat kid we all knew that could hit a bunch of homers in the local 10-12 year old rec league but hasn't really contributed to anything in any capacity since?

You do understand the only reason American football exists is to indoctrinate morons into a culture that feeds the military post high-school, right?

I thought it was to sell us food to make us fat and reliant on big pharma to keep up alive forever even while being in terrible health?

Football back in the day was actually seen as a great way to toughen up rich kids, military or not. The first games being colleges playing each other wasn't some coincidence. It's similar to rugby in the UK where boarding school and other rich kids were encouraged to play it so they got tougher while the working class kids (whose lives themselves were brutal enough they needed nothing else to toughen them up) would play soccer.
Also completely anecdotal but the guys I know who ended up in the military mostly weren't jock types, and the ones who were ended up being officers that went in after college. There was no high school sports to military pipeline at all.
