Are NCAA colleges that go full online this fall going to field fall sports teams?

And if they are how will they defend the NCAA position that student/athletes are more or less the same as regular students and not deserving of any extra benefits past what their scholarships and stuff like that gets them?

Another way to ask the question: What will happen to a major universities athletic programs if their schools football players do not play this fall? (assuming there’s a season and other teams playing)

I would imagine a lot of smaller sports would be cut due to budgets being strained

I mean they’ll lose a lot of money.

I am not sure what your real question is though about defending the benefits players get.

Without a year of football you may see several sports cut to save costs of the entire year
Those employees like coaches would probably have to be furloughed and rehired once football can be played again

Status quo has been for so long to fund entire athletic programs off of football and basketball, those days are coming to an end. this isn't about title IX anymore. If you can't fund your own sport, it can go the route of intramurals.

I guess what I mean is that if the athletes are being required to stay on campus for practices, games, etc... But other students are being required to stay home for safety. The position that the athletes shouldn’t get special treatment over other students seems silly.

My guess would be no because of the heavy amount of outside pressure the schools would get for bringing athletes back but not regular students. You're going to hear a lot of the argument about players not getting paid but schools wanting them to put their health at risk so the university can make millions

Yeah that’s kind of what I’m thinking too. At the end of the day we can argue about the virus and it’s effects or lack of effects on kids their age and what not. But if they shut the school down and brought the athletes back, they would essentially be saying the athletes are essential workers yet they aren’t getting paid beyond what their scholarships give them.

As a college Xc/track coach this worries me. Our university was able to do well with spring sports being canceled honestly. If fall gets canceled though shits gonna be rough.

I know it wouldn’t last forever but really wouldn’t mind if it were just CFB and MBB
