It’s going to be hard for anyone not in the Power 5 to ever make the playoff unless it goes to 8 teams.

A G5 team wouldn't get in with 8 teams either. The committee's purpose is to get the best matchups for TV.

I don't know why people have such a hard time with this. The committee is basically starting every team off with 0 points and awarding points for quality wins. Noone is being punished for losses, but avoiding losing is basically nothing. The main way to guarantee yourself a playoff spot is beating good teams, if you beat 5 top 25 teams and lose 2 games you will be in the playoffs over any undefeated team that hasnt beat any top 25 teams. Memphis is good, but that isn't a big enough win to move the meter when their biggest credit wins are 5-6 ucla and 6-4 navy

Sure. Now explain Wisconsin's ranking.

How many times in the history of CFB has a team like UCF legitimately been one of the 4 best in the country?

There are a lot of problems with the playoff, but keeping UCF out isn't one of them.

2013 UCF finished 12-1 with wins over #8 Louisville and #6 Baylor in their bowl game. They finished one of 4 teams with 1 or less losses and one of those teams was Louisville.

Oh and their only loss was by 3 points to South Carolina, who ended up #4 at the end of the year.

So, with all of those factors, if they weren't top 4 quality then rankings are bullshite.

My rant I put in the other thread applies here too.

If there is not going to be an 8 or 16 team playoff, I still say the fairest system, from a mathematical standpoint, was the BCS formula used until 2003 where teams got credit for QUALITY WINS.

Take that system, and mandate the top two or four teams in the playoff also be conference champions, and you have a great system.

As I've stated numerous times since 2003, the problem with CFB is it is a product ultimately "owned" by the media (mostly now ESPN). The media will always look out for their best interests, thus owning the system. The media will always want ratings and "blue bloods" to dominate the championship system, whatever that is.

Need examples?

In 2003, the MSM Darling at the time, USC (second largest media market) didn't get their way so we changed the formula. Had we MANDATED a conference champ in the system I state above, USC would have played LSU and likely nothing changes at that time. But since USC and the media didn't get their way, we changed a great formula.

In 2011, Bama, another media darling, didn't win their conference and lost what was dubbed "the game of the century". When the media darling that year didn't finish how they were supposed to, we dropped the "every game counts" slogan, created the "eyeball test" along with "quality losses" (since quality wins was eliminated years ago) and changed how we were to view the system again. Now that there are four teams, pay attention to which teams are ALWAYS in the running, conference champs or not (hint, it is ALWAYS blue bloods).

I could go on and on, but you get my point. I enjoy the sport, but I'm well aware of what I'm watching.

In the system we have today, if I'm an injured Bama team, I purposely LOSE to Auburn this weekend and fall from 1 to 2 or 3. Why? Because I can. That's why. Get healthy, skip the SECCG, and waltz into the playoff just like Ohio State may get to do again.
